Hello Everyone.
Just joined the site and wanted to say HELLO!
We have just bought our first "new shape" Scorpio, a '96 Cosworth Ultima in State Blue 67,000 miles and FFSH, it's my wife's new car and we both love it. ;D

She's not a stranger to Cosworths, this will be her third Granada 24V but previous models were Series 3.
I've been looking at the site for a couple of weeks as a guest and was hoping that you could confirm my thoughts on a couple of faults the car HAS got........
1. The ignition warning light remains illuminated at all times (the handbook advises me to drive to a Ford Dealer IMMEDIATELY !). I have put a multimeter across the battery and found 12.4V at rest and 14.2V with engine running, so seems to be charging OK. no problems with starting etc. Is it the case that this is caused by failing diodes but can be left for a considerable time to develop before anything needs to be done?
2. The perspex in front of the main instruments seems to have a milky coating inside.........is this the result of incorrect cleaning materials or could it be a deposit from interior steam cleaning condensate? In any event it would appear to be a bit of a marathon to extract the binnacle. Is the perspex "welded" to the instrument pack or designed to be replaced, are replacements available? BTW Why must you NOT turn the instrument pack face down, do all the cogs fall out???
Otherwise it's LUVVERLY
Best Wishes to you all and hope to get some feedback.

IT'S NOT A GRANADA  ;D ;D

1. I'm no expert, but it may sound like the diodes are failing yes.

2. Difficult to say.

The reason for not turning the instruments face down is that the needles may jump over the stoppers if you do.

Hi,

One possible on the ignition light, mine does it too, although comes and goes, i believe its the power steering fluid tank leaking at the bottom, from the pipe, dropping fluid onto the wiring or the alternator. seems to do it more in cold/wet weather. not losing significant fluid (not topped it up since i got it, 9 months) but seems to be enough to light the light. also not had a problem with flat battery, just been living with it until i can sort it out.

Hope this helps,
