Title: After the Scorpio Post by Butterfingers on Nov 12th, 2006, 3:06pm What is everyone planning on getting after they are done with the Scorpio's? Mercs BMW's Volvos perhaps? One car I wouldn't have minded was the Toyota Camry. Again like the Scorpio it never seemed to sell here. It remains of course one of Americas biggest sellers. |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by Kjetil S on Nov 12th, 2006, 3:32pm For me it's probably a 5-series beemer, but I would go for a mondy ghia-x if they were available in 4wd. As far as I see it, Ford and BMW are two of the few car makers that still make drivers' cars. (And fwd is out of the question for me) |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by mazzy_j on Nov 12th, 2006, 5:14pm ooo, would probably be a Jaguar X or S type diesel with cream leather and all the trimmings (in a good few years time once i've saved up and the scorpio won't move under its own steam anymore ;)) Don't think i'd ever buy a beemer, nice as the 5 series may be, BM's seem to be common as the common stuff nowadays. i'm used to the scorps rareitivity :) Matt |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by TiberiuS on Nov 12th, 2006, 7:29pm I'm holding out for another Jaguar XJ, mabye another V12 SIII or a 4.0 X300/X308. Wouldn't be a daily runner so fuel wouldn't be a problem. I'd happily lose all the gimmicks on the Scorp if it meant better mechanics and more usable power, what I want now is a quality car with better engine/transmission than the Scorpio. Other than the Cats, seen a couple of mid 90's Lexus V8's. Know next to nothing about Lexus so wary about why they sell so cheap. Mondeo is fine as an everyday runner but not as a Scorpio replacement, even the Mk3 is trying to ape the Beemer 3 Series, top end Mondeo sells for a premium price now and most of the chassis and mechanics are shared with the Jag X-Type anyway. The price of early model S Types is looking good now but they don't have what the XJ does. Just want a quality car I can keep for a few years, like mazzy says, nice and rare just like the Scorp ;) Regards, Bruce ;) |

I think a Maybach will suffice after the scorpio ::)....but i'm still dreaming of a new scorpio MK 3,4 or whatever :) |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by jonnycab on Nov 13th, 2006, 12:52am I plan to keep the Scorp...& in the future get it fitted with a robot driver (that looks like a ventriliquists dummy), that knows exactly where it's going & is very polite. ;D Not sure that it hasn't been thought of before though? ::) Failing that...then if Dodge ever remade the Challenger exactly the same as it was before but with loads of gadgets....then I think I would have one.........that's wishing for you ;) |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by Baz on Nov 13th, 2006, 12:54am I seem to remember someone on Mars did that Johnny!! http://www.alvarezwaxmodels.com/Images/Film%20Images/johnny-cab.jpg One slight problem with that though.... Taxi driver......Polite......Knows where he is going to....... seems like the stuff of science fiction to me mate!! Replacement for the Scorp? Has to be an S Class..... long wheel base with the full electric rear seats! I had the new one in France for a fortnight this year but seeing as my budget wont stretch to £72,000.00 I might have to settle for a 52 plater! More toys than the Scorpio could ever dream of.... even mine! Baz |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by TiberiuS on Nov 13th, 2006, 1:09am Baz...you're talking about a top end Merc there, not your average A or C Class 2 litre 8) Still with something English though, a Bentley would be nice when I've made my millions out of vintage hifi :D When I do say goodbye to the Scorpio, my cousin has asked more than once to be remembered, I think he likes it more than I do at the moment, reckons it's lovely ::) Regards, Bruce. |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by Baz on Nov 13th, 2006, 1:39am Bruce, you are correct but you can get a very well appointed 320 or 430 for less than £10k with lowish mileage as well. The 500 and 600 are even better value cos no one wants the fuel bills!" |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by LiverpaulH on Nov 13th, 2006, 8:58am My choice would be to import an aus/nz Ba Falcon XR6T or XR8. Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by mazzy_j on Nov 13th, 2006, 10:26am Paul, you've just reminded me of the australian Ford Performance Vehicle site i found a while ago, if only Ford brought those cars over to the UK, cheap aswell. http://www.fpv.com.au/index.aspx Wouldn't mind any one of those please ;D Christmas is coming if anyones feeling generous ;) Just been having a look at somer older s-classes on ebay, and to be honest, the dash and clocks look rather dated (sierra'esque speedo?) compared to the scorp. The only things i can see worth having are the double glazing and rear air vents... The new one is in a different league 8) Matt |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by Matt on Nov 13th, 2006, 10:47am dunno about the rest of you, but i think i'd stay with the old school fast fords, quite fancy a late sierra saphie cossie next ;D, though the upcomming mondeo is rather nice, in ST form it would be a real looker |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by pappa on Nov 19th, 2006, 9:11am AFTER THE SCORPIO!? :o -------------------------------- It's a hearse, don't know it's make/model and I won't be driving it, but I will be driving in it. Not in the near future. I have a stock of three Scorps (well to you two of them are Granadas) and a NEW 2.3 Litre DOHC Engine + A4LDE. So the next car for me is another Scorpio 8) |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by km449 on Nov 19th, 2006, 10:02am Had a Chrysler 300 as a hire car in Florida this year. Great inside and in a straight line but tram lining was awful, and that was on flattish US roads! Also the slab sides didn't help straight line stability when it got breezy. Wouldn't want to take one over the Dartford Bridge on a really windy day! Having said that it would be a car to have if they sorted the UK one's out Keith |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by dh_dove on Nov 19th, 2006, 2:32pm Hi All Love the selection of cars so far. We're very lucky with a 95 Cossie and an XJS 4.0 Celebration between us at present. For me, a nice, late, mint 4.0 straight six supercharged XJR, any colour BUT British Racing Green.... ;D However, don't get carried away >:( By the time we're all thinking about getting replacement cars we'll be paying for road pricing, "green" fuel taxes, extra cameras, carbon taxes, environmental cubic capacity surcharges, gas-guzzler parking charges (outside your own front door) and will no doubt be persecuted in the media in the same way as smokers of cigarettes etc.etc.etc. We'll all be lucky to be pushing a bike. Also UK economy will have shut down and we'll be out of work as well...........the ultimate pyhrric victory }{ Good isn't it :'( This post brought to you courtesy of the lib-dems, greens, transport 2000, david cameron, tony blair and hundreds of unelected pressure groups and quangos all on top money.............who all live where you can actually catch a bus from A to B, ie London Best Wishes DH Dove 8) |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by johndyork on Nov 19th, 2006, 11:19pm Interesting stuff. Thinking about why I drive a Scorp - cheap luxury motoring with a bit of oomph! Not sure about parts costs for Lexus, Beemer, Merc etc. Feel like a Yorkshire tightfist with deep pockets and short arms but initial cost has to be less than £2.5k & servicing/parts no more than the Scorp. Have to agree with dh_dove that the era of the gas guzzlers may be coming to an end so less choice - just hope I can get Scorp bits for another 10 years! If I had to swop today it would be an Omega with a similar spec - poss 3 litre. Regards, johndyork. |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by km449 on Nov 20th, 2006, 7:27am v4-max - I had a LONG look at the XG30, even had one for 3 days test from a dealer keen to shift it. As you say, great spec, quirky looks etc BUT ultra soft suspension was genuinely sickening, took ages to settle after any bump or lane shift, and gee, it didn't like corners or roundabouts at all. Wanted so much to like one as the price and spec were great but after 3 days I just couldn't put myself or my family through it everyday and gladly returned it. Also they need a MAJOR service every 50k, as in chains etc, ignored at your peril. Costs 600-1000 and perhaps you can see why so many come up for sale with 90k ish on them. I still look at them "longingly" and wish they were better!! |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by TiberiuS on Nov 23rd, 2006, 6:28pm It looks as though I might be joining the ranks of the dark side soon, I'm seriously interested in another Jag. Have had the Scorp for 2 years now and done quite a bit to it but I miss the extra power and build quality, feeling now it's time to call it a day :'(. Nothing for certain yet but I went to see the car this afternoon, over the odds price because it's a low miler but it's near mint with all the paperwork, service history and even the original Jaguar covers. 1995 XJ Sport, black with 2 tone charcoal/ivory interior and a 4.0 AJ6 lurking under the bonnet, I'm in love ;). Scorpio will have to go up for sale but whoever gets it if I sell will have a bargain for the price they go for now. Going back tomorrow for another look and to see if he'll let me have it ::) Regards, Bruce :) |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by v4-max on Nov 24th, 2006, 5:02pm thanks for the advice km. i knew there had to be a reason why they were so cheap. looked at one 2 months ago £2,500 on a y plate and only 62,000 miles. couldnt afford it at the time so got my cossie instead at half the price. not regretted it so far. regards john. |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by km449 on Nov 25th, 2006, 8:25am John, you did the right thing. I absolutely LOVE my Explorer, even though it's not as sharp as a scorp, but the steering and handling is light years ahead of the XG. Never had a 2.9 scorp so can't compare but my 2.3 was never as quick as my yank tank which is knocking out the same mpg as my scorp did! Don't dismiss it, unless you live in London or Richmond!! Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by Baz on Dec 6th, 2006, 8:09pm I also like the Renault Avantime... Very quirky looks, 24v V6 and pretty well appointed and rarer than the Scorpio. Apparently less than 300 were imported on a right hand drive. Wierd colours as well! Baz |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by TiberiuS on Dec 7th, 2006, 6:35pm Baz, a mate of mine had an imported Renault a while back, a French only model of the Laguna (not sure if it was even badged as a Laguna) with a 3 litre V6 engine. Imagine a 3.0 V6 on a car the weight of a Mondeo and a 6 speed manual box 8). I remember him needing a new clutch and front tyres, it needed 255/60 R15 boots :o, another £1400 and 5 months later one of the heads blew and it got sold for next to nothing. Fully loaded car but parts were a nightmare... Regards, Bruce. |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by big_neil on Dec 7th, 2006, 6:55pm my nephew runs a sierra cosworth with 600 bhp(yes 600) if he can still get parts why cant we still be able to get parts in ten or so years time? |

Title: Re: After the Scorpio Post by Baz on Dec 7th, 2006, 9:23pm probably because it is more in the interests of the manufacturer to sell complete cars to replace the ones you can't get parts for! It is probably still easier to get parts for a MKI Cortina than a Scorpio Cosworth! |
