Title: advice needed....
Post by taliban on Dec 18th, 2006, 3:29pm
a friend owns a polo, about 8 years old, standard model.
she said it keeps stalling in traffic and is quite difficult to restart, these are the only symptoms that she notices, any ideas? she said it doesnt overheat....

The throttle bodies can give trouble on these, causes lack of power, jerkiness on light throttle and poor idling.

Also check the idle valve - think they have one  :)

Is it a 1.4 by chance?

Also check the accelerator cable - could have stretched. They do that too.

ok, so whats the cure for the throttle bodies?
do they get gummed up or are they just a poor design?

Not too sure but replacements seem widely available e.g:

Cleaning seems to have mixed results. Might be worth trying but maybe be prepared to replace.
