Title: The price is right...
Post by TiberiuS on Jan 12th, 2007, 3:46pm
Have a guess at the value of this part new...

http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l89/TiberiuS1250/TPS.jpg

It's a genuine TPS (throttle position sensor, aka carbon pot). 3 high quality gold connector pins and a limited edition plastic case, sealed with trendy lime green resin. Sports an embossed Ford oval. Make and model of car undisclosed.

Sensible guesses only please, I'll be back later with the answer...a free virtual pint to the closest and a broken TPS for runner up, you pay postage though  ;)

Regards, Bruce.

It  looks  like  the    rarer   Art  Deco   inspired   design.

Ok, ok...

Tried my local dealer this morning, apparently it isn't a genuine Ford part number even though it's marked up as Ford. Phoned Lookers at Ipswich and they found the part but quote 'we will have to order it for Tuesday'. The price I hear you ask? Wait for it...

A snip at £137.80 incl. VAT...all this for a plastic 3.75k ohm carbon pot measuring 40x45mm.

I ask you, what's the profit margin on a part like this?

Anyway. To the winner:

In 1st place it's Kjetil, you win a virtual pint of Guinness, don't drink it all at once ;)

My 'barman in the fridge' is busy as we speak checking the quality of the froth:

2nd place is Mr Floppy who wins my broken 'Art deco' throttle position sensor. I'll get it weighed but postage should only be around £137.80. I accept Paypal, bribes or my Scorpio tax/insurance paid for a year ;).

Regards, Bruce.
