Title: CTX transmission
Post by km449 on Feb 2nd, 2007, 8:26pm
Can anyone tell me whether ford's ctx transmission as fitted on Escorts was a full automatic or a semi, requiring gear changes but without a clutch.

Thanks, as always

hi there

don't think it had gears as such. if i remember correctly, it was all done with a belt. it increases in length for different speed, etc.

somethig like that, anyway.

So it's like the cvt thing that Micras used to have!

It's a stepless transmission, similar in theory to Leyland's belt drive in the 1970's. Look on Google and you should find some info, I know it was popular in the Fiesta too ;)

Theoretically as fast in reverse as forwards. Push to go, pull to reverse ::)
