Title: Vauxhall Astra locks
Post by tintin on Feb 6th, 2007, 6:10pm
Ok, ive got a friend coming over tonight with her Astra. Passenger lock wont unlock. History : key never worked on passenger side, she used to use central locking. central locking started struggling to open, so when it didnt she pulled the knob up. now, cant pull the knob up, so its locked and wont budge. sounds like its just seizing up from lack of use.

so, anyone got any techniques for freeing up locks? WD40 and brute force? wont have time tonight to remove seat, take door apart......

Sam, are you sure you haven't joined the ranks of the dark side? {} ;D ;)

With any other car I'd be diplomatic but once I see that V flag I'm going for the sledgehammer ;)

No, seriously, I'd try and loosen the lock barrel first with WD40 but if the key won't budge it sounds like a door card off job once you can get the door open. In some cars the actuator rods get crudded up and stick, if even the c/l won't open it it's most likely a jammed rod ;).

Good luck.

Regards, Bruce.

Of course, it is said that an entire chainsawed side of Astra makes a very good battery tray for a Ford Scorpio...and very tasty too cooked medium rare with axle sprockets and oilburner sauce :P ::)

the key turns to lock it and activates the central locking, wont turn to unlock. handle lifts and something moves at the back. the knob lifts all the way up with some persuading, but just springs back down again.

think its the bit in the lock that clips over the hook, if you see what i mean, has got jammed (or the hook has moved). can probably take the door card off without removing the seat, but not sure if you can "unhook" from inside the door either. tried "jiggling" the door to see if it made any difference, but there is zero movement.

wheres the chainsaw  ;D

lol, having failed to get anywhere with this, but having sprayed a litre of WD40 into every crevice i could see.....

....she just rang to say the passenger lock unlocked with the central locking this morning, and bonus, key now works on that side too.....

score to WD40
