Title: How much did you say???
Post by TiberiuS on Feb 16th, 2007, 4:03pm
Browsing through the local Gazette today, always have a butchers through the car adverts (you never know ::)). Found this, copied word for word from the ad:

Ford Scorpio Ultima 3ltr

1995, fsh, tax, mot, good runner

£250 ono

How much? Was that a misprint?

Nope, £250ono in big bold letters :o

Even if the 3ltr is a misprint and it's really a 2ltr rather than a 2.9, it must still be a 16v. I'm lusting very badly now :-*

How can our cars get any cheaper? It's a top end premium saloon for barely any more than a year's tax - even if it had to be rebuilt, I call that worth having, for parts alone if nothing else.

Still trying to find a stable job, if I get one soon and need to commute a distance I may well be getting another Scorpio quite soon :)

Regards, Bruce.

...it might well be a good runner,   but what horrors lurks within ?

  It's riddled with ferric oxide,

a transmission,  that not only leaks like niagara,  but sounds like a sack of spanners falling down a set of stairs,

after it rains the boot is full of water,

  everything electric DOESN't work

  it don't start when hot,

   ;D

  rather you than me  :P

I bet the fuel tank leaks if you park it facing downhill ;D ::) ;)

I know the problems with them, I owned one for 2 years and it wasn't exactly trouble free at first. But, £250 for a car with tax and MOT, at the end of the day, for £2000 you could have most of the car sorted...far less than the price of a 10 year old Beemer 318i...I know which one I'd sooner have :)

Worth it for the spares alone I would have thought.

Where is it?  ;)

Well, i bought my immaculate MOT'd cossie a year ago for £200 ;D

Reason for it being so cheap was the speedo and o'd didn't work, £45 for a new vss from ford and an hour of my time to fit... hey presto one fully working cosworth!

I sold my 95 16V 2.0 Ultima about 3 months ago, Nothing wrong with it except a tiny hole in the exhaust mid section and a noisy AC compressor. I got 150 pounds for it. Guy MOT'd it after 2 years of been stood and it failed on the said exhaust but nothing else. He probably got the deal of a life time.

Aye Danny, I thought your Scorp went to the big car park in the sky in the end?

Nice to know you managed to sell it, even if not for a great deal ;)

Regards, Bruce,

yeah me too, the guy who bought it off me wanted the wheels and the interior and said he would junk the rest of the car. I later finds out he put it through the MOT and is using it as his daily driver. So it lives on for a little while longer :)
