Title: Re: Milages? Post by Spannerdemon on Feb 22nd, 2007, 11:36am Just coming up to 92,000 on my 1996 2.9 12v. Running as sweetly as when it left the factory. My last car (a Volvo 940 GLE) had 216,000 on it when I sold it, and it was still as good as new. If you CARE for your car, don't thrash it, and change the oil regularly, and check it over once a week, you'll get good service from it. I firmly believe this. :) |

Title: Re: Milages? Post by taliban on Feb 22nd, 2007, 11:58am mines on 148,000 and runs smoothly, well, it did till the belt tensioner broke lol, but as spanner said regular oil and filter changes can make a world of difference...... |

Title: Re: Milages? Post by TiberiuS on Feb 22nd, 2007, 3:32pm I'm with Spanners and Tali on this, if the car is looked after then high mileages shouldn't be a problem. Apart from the inevitable auto transmission wearing out and the possibility of engine cylinder wear and bottom end failure, if everything is in good order the car should be good to go :) As for low mileage, my 2.3 had 95k on it when I bought it, strangely the autobox packed up at 101k...when I sold it in January it was almost at 106k. Although not a Scorp, our 1995 N reg Mondeo has a genuine 26k on it, always funny when the mechanic asks if it's genuine...I'd like to see anyone other than Rod Allen Cars ltd (aka £10k Scorpio) beat this ::) When my uncle left it to me in 2002, it only had 9k on it, I've notched up most of the other 17k in the past 4 years but the car runs better for being used regular :) 62k on the cat now (1995 again) but the V12 (1987) had 125k on it and drove as well as the Sport, high mileages on a good engine/transmission aren't a problem ;) Regards, Bruce ;) |

Title: Re: Milages? Post by taliban on Feb 22nd, 2007, 4:22pm i've got a friend who owns L reg golf 1.4 with about 35k on the clock, and she has nothing but running trouble with it, all she does is a 5 mile round trip to work each day in traffic. she has it serviced every year by the same garage that just rip her off, but she wont try anyone else because they're a volkswagen service place. she often moans about how 'stuttery' it can be. i keep telling her its 'choked' and needs a good 100 mile blast at 70 to give it a clear out, but she wont............ |
