Title: Operating System
Post by - Mike - on Mar 9th, 2007, 11:39pm
(A question if I may from a rather sad individual) }{

Hi
Is anyone using Windows XP Professional x64bit as their OS and have any views on it please e.g. software compatibility with 32bit software etc. etc.

TIA
Mike

I pesonally have not run XP64, but do know a couple of people who have and have had now problems with it, and AFAIK it is designed to run both 64 & 32 bit applications so pretty much anything that runs in XP should work with XP64.

The only issue I can foresee is hardware related, not all manufacturers decided to support XP64 and therefore it may be worth doing a search for any drivers you may need first. One reason I never tried XP64 is that I was unable to get drivers for my sound card, webcam or scanner so decided to give it a miss.

Not much point running 64bit windows unless you have oodles of RAM, upwards of 3gb...

if you have a 64bit processer you can ONLY run windows 64bit
if you have a standard pc ie not 64bit processer then you should ony install the 32bit windows.
you cannot install 64bit on a 32bit pc, IT WILL NOT WORK it is designed for AMD64bit.
who-ever decided to put 64bit on there pc which is not 64bit is a total numb nut :P :-*

Wrong  ::)

64bit processors can run 32bit software and 32bit windows just fine.

Huh?

A 32bit cpu will only run 32bit OS'es, like the standard Windows XP.

A 64bit cpu will run both 32bit and 64bit OS'es, without any problems. Most, if not all, modern cpu's are 64bit, and most of them run an 32bit operating system.
