Title: Traffic Cops Programme/ Mobile Phones
Post by Spannerdemon on Mar 13th, 2007, 8:59am
I don't know if anyone else saw this programme on BBC1 last night.

Absolutely harrowing, as it showed the aftermath of a fatal crash where a 23 year old girl had been killed by a truck driver, who had run into the back of her car whilst messing about with his mobile phone.

Her car was unrecognisable. They said it was the most badly crushed car they had ever seen. They even had difficulty finding her body inside it.

Then this poor copper had to go and break the news to her family.

If anyone had any doubts about the danger of using a mobile whilst driving, I'm sure that this programme will have convinced them otherwise.

The lying scroat of a so called driver was jailed for 4 miserable years!!! He lied and lied but was eventually caught out!" Scumbag.

4 years for killing a beautiful young girl with everything to live for and just starting her adult life..............

Because he was messing with his phone, he hadn't even braked, and gone into the back of a queue of traffic at 60mph. 6 other cars were badly smashed.

Horrible, and it certainly brought a tear to my eye, as my own Daughter is the same age........

Really made us think.

I saw that. SERIOUS lump in the throat viewing. Such a pretty young girl at the start of her adult life  :'(

That policeman who had to tell her family, hats off to him. I could not do that.

Yes I saw that months ago too.

The way he tried to lie his way out of his responsibility for the death  was the most depressing thing, his complete lack of  any  remorse  for the  easily avoided  tragedy makes me despair  that the roads are full of    self centered  people who  think that texting   their mates  is more important than  the safety of others.

It's not just drivers that get distracted by mobile phones......pedestrians, especially teenagers on mobile phones are also a hazard to motorists, as they are usually so engrossed in their conversations that everything else around them is of no consequence  ???

A few weeks ago, I was driving along a road near to where I live. I noticed a couple of hundred yards in front, on the pavement, was a teenage girl, with her hand to her ear & generally shuffling around.

Yup...you guessed it, the next thing she did is walk straight out into the road...totally oblivious to traffic  ::)

I slammed my brakes on & managed to steer around her (thank god for ABS).....& do you know what she did ?....she gave me the finger  ???

I wasn't too upset though.......at least she could still give me the finger.... ;)

One less statistic  :)

jonny, try driving a bus down oxford street, especially leading up to xmas, im always amazed by their stupidity, at least one driver from our garage will hit one during december, i was lucky, man on phone with xmas shopping stepped straight out, i just had time to hoot, he jumped out the way dropping his shopping, i ran it over, he was lucky. in the summer oxford street normally gets closed once a week, usually tourists that look the wrong way then step out, the trouble is due to bus shape they normally get trapped underneath between the front wheel and body work and normally die later from massive internal injuries.....

I thought it was me being soft., but it would seem I wasn't the only one moved to shed a tear watching that programme.
For me it brought home how easily a loved one can be taken from us purely through someone else's stupidity.
Programmes like that, along with the horrors caused by drink-driving should be mandatory viewing as part of the driving test....
