A real wood dash board... not plastic

but then something sort of bumped into it.....

I'm sure it will polish out though!!

Yep... column change auto it is....

I used to have a white 1700 V4 delux when I was about 19 or 20 but I always wanted a 2000E!!

like a minature yank, column change, fuel filler under number plate.......
reminds me of being a kid, my mum n dad had a 1964 vauxhall victor, grey and burgundy two tone, burgundy leather, column change, the steering wheel had a chrome inner ring which was the horn. the ride was so soft though, i always used to throw up on the back seat............

I was a  Zephyr Mk. 4  fan  as a ten year old.

Like the Scorpio the critics hated its mid-atlantic design ( and atrocious handling ) but then,  what do they know ?

Thats lovely Baz, nice find  8)

Might see you at some classic shows then! Capesthorne has a couple of nice ones in, IIRC, May and August. Wilmslow Show in July has a nice car section too.

Look out for us with the 1966 2 door green Morris Minor  :D

Superb find baz! where on earth did you find her??

My dad used to have one of these before i was born, a white 2000E, ive seen pictures and always loved the way the front looked with the odd headlight design.
If my memory serves he ran it up a bank and it was never quiet the same
I love the old school cars and if i could i would run out tommorw and buy a mk3 cortina lol!! or maybe a mk1 or 2 granada im not sure, has to be big though!

Anyway if you need any parts for it i have a few contacts through the motor trade that deal just in classic parts, thats what comes from working for a brake upgrade company, people buy them from us becuase they cant get the originals!! anyway let me know.

Thanks everyone for the positive comments. The car was on EBay and is a CAT C insurance loss (beyond economic repair!!) It does look pretty straight apart from the bit of a dent on the front wing (did anyone notice that in the photos??) I used to have a 1700 V4 in white when I was 19/20 which was in the family from new. Unfortunately it ended up in the breakers yard with a ford escort sticking out of its back end!!

I had a look at MKI granadas and even back to the MKIII Zodiacs but they were all around the 3500 - 4000 quid mark for a decent one. I am not 100% sure if this can be fixed but it only stood me £800 and having seen a set of wheeltrims go for nearly £80 it is quite valuable as parts; especially as it has been completely rebuilt by the looks of it.

Richard, I think I might need a wing and a door if I can't knock the dints out so I may give you a shout!!

Hoping to get the car back up here next week so I will get some more photos then

TB,

well I went to Chichester on Monday to check it over and pay for it and I must say it is pretty good. The front bit obviously needs sorting but the rest is in very good nick.

I have sourced a new headlight surround and a new headlight and side light (How do people come to havce 40 year old parts still in the original packets??) but tonight proved to be a bit of a cracker....

i was doing a search on ebay for a spare wing, door etc. when I found an obscure little classic car spares site that hadn't been updated since 2005. on it was a advert from a guy in the isle of man advertising spares from a 1967 corsair 2000e
I phoned him and he laughed!! i thought that was because it was such an old advert and he had sold it ages ago   but it turns out he never had any enquireies and it was in a barn at his sisters house and was complete. he also had 4 spare doors a bonnet, glass and a load of spare bits and he said I could have everything for 100 quid!

All i have to do now is fit the towbar i got big Lee to drop off last year and buy an a frame for about 150 and go and tow it back! via heysham so not too far!

Mine will be up with me tomorrow so I will see how we go on!

this picture brought back some memories of when i was a kid. my dad had a corsair convertable in the sixties when i was about five? i don't know what model it was but i loved it, red with a white retracting roof. my most vivid memory was waiting in the car for him in earlsfield, london with the roof down whilst he popped into the snooker hall to see somone, it started to rain and as dad told me to stay in the car i just waited for him to come back, he returned pretty quickly and put the roof up and then proceeded to grab an umbrella from the back and put it up and told me to hold it over my head until we got home as there was a hole in the roof just over my head!! this is one memory i will always treasure!! :)

Title: Re: My New Project!!
Post by Baz on Mar 22nd, 2007, 2:54pm
Ha Ha..... mind you, I think a hole in the roof would be easier to sort than the front end of this!

hmmm.... sixties... snooker halls.....popping in to see someone..... your dad didn't work for Ronnie and Reggie did he!!? ;D ;D

Baz that may be a story for another day!! ;) i'll tell you what though there was respect for most people and kids seemed a lot safer, you dreaded upsetting a neighbour because they would tell your mum about you being a nuisance and subsequentally mum would tell your dad and that meant a wallop!! kids knew where to toe the line with all the adults especially the police, i had a great time as a kid and sadly miss the uncomplicated era that was then. my dad made a point recently that people were happiest when they were paid weekly, no need for credit or bank accounts, you were paid weekly and if it was a 'bad week' it was only a few days until you were paid again, but i digress...  ::)

Well the car is now up in Warrington and sat in my mates yard all wrapped up waiting to move to our new house. My mate doesn't know it is going to be replaced with another corsair yet though!!

Nice one Baz,
Was watching overhauled on sky last night and if their work is anything to go on, a bucket full of "bondo" will fix that that little ding up a treat. ;D
Wish I could get bondo over here it seams you can make whole pannels and everything out of it ::)

Another update....

Got the photos through of the £100.00 donor car I have to pick up from the Isle Of Man. Looks pretty good although the interior is now a bit musty and the inner wings are shot at.

hey shaun,

how did you find the vitesse? was it a convertible?

my first car when i was just turned 17 (built from chassis up from 2 poorly ones) was a Herald 13/60 with a 1500 dolomite engine and overdrive, and some fancy bits tacked on. on warm summer nights, i still find myself kicking myself for scrapping it..... then i remember the doors closing up on my arm, and the leaks, oh the leaks !!

Nice one!
A friend of mine's Dad bought one of these NEW in about '67. At the time my Dad had a Mk2 Morris Oxford..........the Corsair seemed like a spaceship by comparison. What futuristic styling, we'd never seen anything like it!!!
I understand the 2000 is the one to go for, the V4 was a pig by all accounts!
Very best of luck with your restoration

Next update...

today was a good day. Managed to get the car started, first time it has run for almost 11 months. The battery still had enough life to crank the engine and with a bit of easy start down the carb, it fired on the 3rd attempt. Sounded a bit rough for a minute or so then ticked over nicely. No exhaust connected so it was loud!

Couldn't rev the engine from the pedal because when the crash happened, it pushed the wheel arch back and trapped the pedal so it doesn't move!

Inhibitor works on the gearbox so only starts in neutral and park so looking good!

Got these yesterday!

Apologies, original V4 engines were poor, later 2000 engines much improved. :)
My mistake. :-[

Another update....

Managed to get the V5C and contacted the previous owner who was suprised to say the least!!

He told me that he had the crash on May 31st last year after two uninsured scumbags came out of a side road without stopping and smashed into the Corsair and then just drove off, leaving him in a ditch!

He sent me a few pictures he took during the 5 months he had the car!

Hope I can get it looking that good!

Now I am moved into the new house, the car will be coming here soon to be stripped before it goes off for straightening!

That donor Corsair is, if I'm not mistaken, Saturn Gold....the same colour as my Granny.....

Maybe a good idea to use the donor car body & transfer all the bits to it ?  ;)

P.S...all this talk of classic cars....I just had to post another piccie  ::)

Cheers Baz  8) You sure the Corsair isn't OBD? Should be a socket just near the drivers left knee, next to the climate control panel IIRC  ;D
