Title: was just wondering really.......

some years ago most motorbikes changed from using carbs to fuel injection. with carbs, being a bank of 4, they needed balancing, and added expense unles you owned vacuum gauges, so most of us thought, fuel injection, no more balancing, or so we thought, as it turned out the throttle bodies for the injection still need balancing, is this the same with cars?

In my humble opinion I would say yes.
I base this on a bmw bike that is owned by a mate. he once had a throttle cable snap and we replaced the whole cable. the next time a service was due he put it into a dealership and was asked if there were any problems. he explained about the cable and said it was a bit rough at lower revs the mechanic said the cable would still be bedding in and would more than likely of stretched on the longer side thus throwing out the balance.
I know that this is a bike case but I would imagine that similar problems would happen on a car.
keeping in mind that the principles of the engine between car and bike are the same I would say that the throttle bodies them selves could create problems if they were drastically out of sinc.
However,
Have you ever tried fitting free flow filters to a set of cv carbs without rejetting?
It simply does not work but on a car there would apeer to be fewer problems.
Does that help or just confuse matters more ??? ::) ;D

it was just curiosity really al, as i noticed no one mentioning it on this site.
obviously bike engines being more finely tuned would need balancing more often.
as for the cv's and free flow filters, depends on the engine and carbs, you can get away with raising the needle a notch, but it isnt always enough and you can lose mid range, so yep, bigger jets are best......

Don't wish to show my ignorance but, on fuel injection the fuel is injected into the manifold/cylinders by the injectors, controlled by the ECU, mechanical or electronic.
Carbs needed balancing because they supplied the fuel/ air mixture into the manifold and since in multi carb applications they had to supply an even mix to all cylinders they needed balancing.
I thought that this was now defunct due to new technology ???
Sorry can't comment on new bike tecnology, but I used to be a whizz on the old Amal Concentric.......... ;D
