Title: is there anything else as comfortable
Post by johnboy on May 15th, 2007, 4:28pm
Is there any other car out there that comes anywhere near the space and comfort of a scorpio. If there is I can't find it.
There come a time when, unfortunately I will have to buy something else so I was wondering if my fellow members had any ideas as to which car comes close to it.

I had the same problem when looking for a replacement for my '93 Granada Scorpio Estate - initially put off by the frontal looks of the Scorpio, however once driven totally convinced it was the right car ! Have had the same thoughts about when I eventually get round to replacing my Scorpio Estate - what else is there out in used car land for the money ? Not a lot !

I've only rode in one car that is better than the scopio for space and luxury and that was a 4L LWB XJ6 Soverign but that was alot more money than my scorpio in parts and to buy, but not the fuel I'm told ;D

Your favourite armchair floating along on air, perhaps? ::)

These were all the rage a few years back, very comfy it is said - but all sold on eBay now our Post Office has been sold :(:

I find the Jags to be smaller 'thingypit'wise and with less headroom.
It certainly is a dilemma that crosses all our minds now and again.

A good few years back I owned a BMW 733i on an S plate. (1978?) It had the same spec as the Scorpio, with grey leather seats, and is the only car that I've cherished as much as the Scorp.
Alas it became too costly to keep running sweet and common sense (and the wife) had to prevail.
Sound familiar???

I agree. The Scorpio seats have to be amongst the most comfortable ever fitted into a car. The restful seating is surely a good thing, because you arrive at the end of any journey, unstressed, relaxed and without feeling as though you've been sitting on a bag of spanners for the last couple of hundred miles.  ;)

it was the comfort and price of the scorp that made me buy one, i was originally looking for a caddy, which are generally more comfortable, just, but more expensive, then a lot of insurance companies wont touch em due to being left hookers.......

I never owned a jag or sat in one the only car that comes close for comfort i found was the old Rover SD1 the 3.5 ltr Vitesse very relaxing and fast.I owned three of these cars funny thing is i was on my way to look at another one in Northampton when i saw the scorpio that i ended up buying.

We did  an 1100 mile round trip 3 weeks ago in 30 hours to the bottom end of Belgium and back, (*yes we are mad) but my girlfriend drove the Cossie for the first time and her verdict after about an hour was "This car is unbelievable".

She has got a less than two year old Zafira that she loves, yeah I know odd but she is female and blonde. We got back feeling as if the journey was about half the actual distance. Wonderful car and what would you replace it with ? Chrysler 300, but not for a long long time until the secondhand prices don't look like telephone numbers.

You could always look to a 53 plated omega, plenty of room nice drive and the face lifted model had better anti corrosive bodywork than the original (and it looked a d**n site nicer)

John, I get 26-28 normally if I go 'easy' on the happy pedal, part urban but mostly rural A roads. My ambition is to one day hit the big 30 if I keep it on cruise on a clear motorway ;D.

Even if it slips into Sport mode (oops ::)) it still returns 24-25 although I don't thrash it to within an inch of it's life, if you did that it'd probably punish you in MPG ;)

Not a car to run to the supermarket of pick the kids up from school in but for long distance and fast roads it's pukka :-* ;)

Regards, Bruce.

Trouble is he wants something as comfortable as the scorp and the omega certainly imo isn't as comfy.

And it's a v******l! ;)

I'm with you though bren re the chrysler, I would definitely consider the 300c but as you say, only once the prices have dropped.

I don't think the build quality is the same with a Omega although overall it's a very good car.

I've been considering this for some time and have put off buying new tyres in the hope that I could find another car to replace my cossie estate. Having read all the above contributions I've decided to replace the tyres and stop looking elsewhere. Seems I will never get a Jag now!!!!!!!!  (Perhaps I could have a Jag as well)

Cheers

John

I had the pleasure recantly of been taken for a ride in my mates 02 plate Audi S8 ! oh my , 0-60 in sub 6 seconds, his is the 4.2 the newer ones are 5.2L I believe and do 60 in 5.1.  Smooth , fast and real comfortable. he used to LOVE his old granny ghiaX and rates my scorp. mine is the estate at least ! not cheap though, he give twenty K for it a year ago. you might pick one up in a couple of years for sensible money. I hope so anyway.

the tyres are about two hundred quid each ! due to it been an all alluminum chassie it weighs only about 1500 kg and gives approx 19 mpg driven hard. up to 26 steady  about Scorpio standard.

Hi all
I have had this problem due to the head going on my Cossie and I have found something EVEN better.
Lexus GS300
I have always been a Ford man but   the Lexus is awesome. Same if not bigger interior space, and the seats are so comfy. Electric everything again as the Cossie. And rapid also
Give them a try look around E-bay and there are some great bargains to be had.

;D
