Title: Motorway Travel
Post by Spannerdemon on May 30th, 2007, 12:18pm
About 20 years ago I bought a small book called "Just Off The Motorway", and it's been in my glovebox ever since.

This is their website: HERE (http://www.offmotorway.com)

ALSO..Just found this on the web, which is a very similar thing.

HERE (http://www.5minutesaway.co.uk)

I don't use Motorway Services except for their toilets. It's about all they're good for in my book. Their food is dreadful, their shops are pricey, and petrol is outrageous. We just got fed up being ripped off by them. So her and me never buy anything there anymore :D

£8.00 for two cups of watery tea and a couple of stale buns in 1997 at RoadChef Services Taunton finished it for us. Permanently.

These sites (and the book is still available) tells you what is within a couple of miles of virtually every M/Way junction in the country.

Pubs, Shops/Supermarkets, Fuel, Restaurants/Cafes etc etc.  so that you can get a decent meal, a proper break, and NOT get ripped off.

I know these Sat Nav things do this, but we don't all have/want them.   :)

Might help some of you on long journeys now that Summer is on the way :)

[] only stop for a pee.

What a good idea. Good to see the Kent meet pub mentioned off M25 j4.

My old (1993) road atlas has loads of scribbles of where to eat/drink/relax. I usually avoid M-ways as much as possible prefering A-roads.

Stay Saturday night too and you'll be able to get to Harewood!

Yes Leeds is out of the question for me (Torquay), and I usually work Sundays too.

I think that there are very few families left in the UK who can afford to take weekends off work anymore.
So much for Blair's vision of "Family Life"  ;)
