Title: My New Toy Post by Danny_R on Jun 11th, 2007, 2:02pm Just Bought a 1979 Lincoln Continental, 460 Cubic Inch engine (7.2L)V8. From bumper to bumper it measures 21 feet long! I know a lot of you don't like American cars on here but for those who do here's some pictures... http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Danny_R/Lincoln/DSCN1226.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Danny_R/Lincoln/DSCN1221.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Danny_R/Lincoln/DSCN1219.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Danny_R/Lincoln/DSCN1218.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Danny_R/Lincoln/DSCN1217.jpg Danny_R |

Title: Re: My New Toy Post by mr._floppy on Jun 11th, 2007, 2:18pm Similar to the one old TV Tec. Cannon used to drive ? 7.2 litres ? makes my 4.6 litre look postively frugal for fuel economy. Rolls Royce took Lincoln to court over the flagrant copying of the radiator grille, but, after months of litigation, eventually gave up, thinking impersonation is the sincerest form of flattery. |

Title: Re: My New Toy Post by scorpio_man on Jun 11th, 2007, 2:36pm 8) does it have headlight cover plates? |

Title: Re: My New Toy Post by Danny_R on Jun 11th, 2007, 2:47pm Yes it does Andrew, in fact for a car from the 70's is has quite a long list of gadgets and gizmo's that all still work, amazing. |
||||
Title: Re: My New Toy Post by scorpio_man on Jun 11th, 2007, 2:54pm ;D and i though all the yanks were complaining about the cost of gas!!!! btw, did you get rid of your 'police car'? |

Title: Re: My New Toy Post by TiberiuS on Jun 11th, 2007, 6:15pm Phwoarrr, that's a burly brute ;D Makes my 16ft 7" motah look almost small, hope the parking bays at Walmart are bigger than at Tescos ::) Don't mind me asking Danny but what did they rush you for it? Looks in some condition for a 28 year old car. Regards, Bruce. |

Lol! nope still got the police car for the time being, I put over 200,000 on her and she's still going. Thinking about selling soon though. My new Lincoln is strictly a weekend/going out to dinner car ;D Quote:
It set me back $1000. Hell of a lot of car for 500 pound ey? Only thing wrong with it is it needs a new water pump which i've sourced for $30. Apart from that just a few dash bulbs etc.. nothing much. That 7.2 sound beautiful when you start it up :P Kind Regards Danny |

Title: Re: My New Toy Post by TiberiuS on Jun 11th, 2007, 7:22pm Danny, I'm not the world's biggest fan of yank tanks admitted but been looking on the net, that's quite a car you've got there. Methinks you did well for $1000 ;) |

Title: Re: My New Toy Post by Scorpio_Mike on Jun 11th, 2007, 7:52pm Very, very nice ! Gotta admit I have a soft spot for old Yank tanks. |

Title: Re: My New Toy Post by TiberiuS on Jun 11th, 2007, 8:53pm 7mpg :-X Just starting the beast could send the UK into recession ;D |

Title: Re: My New Toy Post by Spannerdemon on Jun 11th, 2007, 9:27pm WOW. That's some beastie. ;D You'd never run it over here in the Uk though. Not on our petrol prices. :D |
||||
Title: Re: My New Toy Post by Octavian_P on Jun 12th, 2007, 8:06am I love it ! Has the size of a aircraft carrier and only 2 doors ! wow thats a sports car ;D and wow the cossie is less than half of that beast, by the way what torque / power does it develop ? |
||||
Title: Re: My New Toy Post by Danny_R on Jun 13th, 2007, 1:39am Thanks for the comments guys. Engine pictures to come Quote:
Not as much as you might think. These are the only specs I can find: Torque: 315 ft.-lb. at 1800 RPM |
||||
Title: Re: My New Toy Post by cossiejamie on Jun 13th, 2007, 4:57am I like it. The front even looks a bit menacing, reminds me of a 70`s horror B movie called "The Car". I don`t know what it was, but it used to drive itself and run people over. I would think 315 ft-lb at such low revs is good. You could probably pull away in top gear and just ride and endless seem of power, unless its an auto. Cracking car for the money, but no one in the UK could afford to run it. Saying that, I cant afford to run my cossie everyday :-[ Jamie |

Title: Re: My New Toy Post by pat on Jun 13th, 2007, 1:03pm Cossiejamie. The Car- was that the one starring the guy who played McCloud? His name escapes me. Pat(that's my name not his) |

Title: Re: My New Toy Post by TiberiuS on Jun 13th, 2007, 7:15pm Guys, wasn't that car an old Plymouth or Chrysler or something, like the Plymouth Fury in Christine? Saw the film years ago, just can't remember what car it was :-/ 315ft/lb isn't to be sneezed at, about 425nm in English...compared to my old 2.3, that's quite a bit, even in such a heavy lump ::). Might not be quick to 60 but speed and effortless power don't always go together ;) |
||||
Title: Re: My New Toy Post by pat on Jun 13th, 2007, 7:49pm I thought this was a great idea of Danny's - buying a Lincoln for its engine to go in your Scorp. Now I'm not so sure. The engine mountings don't seem to quite line up. Any ideas anybody? I've tried a lump hammer. Pat |

Title: Re: My New Toy Post by Danny_R on Jun 22nd, 2007, 10:57pm Pic's of Interior and engine as promised. Interior needs a little work but not much. All the electric toys work. Notice how its got probably one of the first climate control systems. Works a treat, fans speed up and slow down accordingly, amazing how they had this stuff back then. Thermometer on the drivers door mirror is a nice touch too :) http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Danny_R/Lincoln/DSCN1247.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Danny_R/Lincoln/DSCN1246.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Danny_R/Lincoln/DSCN1238.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Danny_R/Lincoln/DSCN1245.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Danny_R/Lincoln/DSCN1242.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Danny_R/Lincoln/DSCN1241.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Danny_R/Lincoln/DSCN1240.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Danny_R/Lincoln/DSCN1239.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Danny_R/Lincoln/DSCN1250.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/Danny_R/Lincoln/DSCN1249.jpg Danny_R |
