O K, I know this is another stupid question but you know me and computers.   :P

When you are answering a particular posting on the forum, how do you get that little white box up with the bit that says  "so and so wrote...."

Scorpio electrics  -  AAARRRGGGGHHH   >:(  >:(  >:(

Estate been in AGAIN today for  missing/rough running problem(different garage).

This time, only fault found was badly corroded fuel filter.
Replaced, road tested, said to be running well and pulling a lot better.
Brought it home - just as bad.

Supposed to have been fully tested out including top harness.

Where do I go from here??   ???

Hi Pat
Was the car looked at by an auto electrician or a mechanic? My first diagnosis ( "mechanic") was that the rough running / non starting was the coilpacks / then the idle control valve . Turned out as everybody knows by now, to be an EDIS unit problem (diagnosed by Stuart) and then further traced to a defective wire by an auto electric diagnostician. So my bet would be EDIS and/or associated wiring

good luck

Alastair

Hi Alastair.

Thanks for your interest.
1st check was by auto-electrician. Found faulty lambda sensor, replaced it but then never came back to complete scan.
Today's effort was garage mechanic but to be fair, he seems to know what he is doing. He has just successfully diagnosed and repaired ABS problem where others have failed.
Sorry, you have lost me on EDIS-what is it?

Before I can do anything else I have got to get MOT and tax as vehicle is on SORN.
It had gone in for MOT as well today but tester had injured his hand and gone to hospital!

Hi Pat
Sorry about the delay - I took a night off
In my dictionary EDIS stand for Eternal Disaster in Spades in  Ford's it stands for Electronic Distributorless Ignition System.

It takes the place of the distributor but also controls and stabilises the voltage to the fuel pump through the ECU.
It lives on the front offside wing tucked up behind the windscreen fluid filler and the header tank. You can read about it on: -

http://www.dainst.com/info/edis/edis.html

Good luck with your MOT

Alastair

I think Alastair's first definition is nearer the mark.

The mechanic has got "a man" at Ford who  he is going to discuss problem with.

I'll not book in for MOT until he gets back to me. Otherwise it'll probably now fail on emissions. :(
