Title: Good Workmanship?-? Post by petehull on Aug 13th, 2007, 3:01pm Well, yesterday I finally got round to replacing the cracked exhaust manifold on my car, the job was quite streight forward but a little awkward. During the strip down of the old manifold I found the following things wrong... 1. the ERG valve was not tightened up, when the 2 bolts were removed it just lifted off :o. 2. One of the small hoses to the ERG pipework wasn't even connected, :-[ the other was very loose. :-/ 3. there was ony 3 bolts holding the heat sheild on. ??? 4. there was a nut missing off the manifold to cylinder head, and 2 others hadn't even been tightened up. :'( 5. there was no gasket between the manifold and the cat so it had been blowing. :'( Bearing in mind that this engine had been fitted only in last November, ??? I would have thought these simple little problems would have been sorted, when I carry out a job, the last thing I always do is to check that everything is tightened, ::) if I was charging someone £580 labour which is what it cost me, for doing the job I would have had nightmares if I had turned a job out like this. :'( ??? {}But then again it is 2007 isn't it? Title: Re: Good Workmanship?-? Post by Thunderchild on Aug 13th, 2007, 3:24pm £580 and they leave it like that... ouch!! That's one of the reasons that I do all the work on the car and bikes myself. At least I know that I'll have checked everything and if it subsequently goes wrong then I only have myself to blame. Just to let you know, I fitted the diff and oh my word what a difference!! Post by petehull on Aug 13th, 2007, 3:40pm Hi Geoff, are you changing your name to 'speedy' by any chance.... ;D They knew that they had my car and that I lived 200 miles away, got a free dint in my n/s/r door off them too, but that could have been done by anyone as it was left for them at the side of the road... One day I will have a smart looking car.... who knows? glad the diff did it it for you.... :D pete |
