The world-famous Red Arrows have been banned from appearing at the 2012 London An event in London!s because they are deemed "too British".

Organisers of the event say that the Arrows military background might be "offensive" to other countries taking part in the Games. The display team have performed at more than 4000 events worldwide, but the Department of Culture, Media and Sport have deemed the display team "too militaristically British". Red Arrows pilots were said to be "outraged", as they had hoped to put on a truly world class display for the Games, something which had never been seen before. Being axed from a British-based event for being "too British" is an insult - the Arrows are a symbol of Britain.

The Red Arrows have been excellent ambassadors for British overseas trade, as they display their British-built Hawk aircraft all over the world.

The Arrows performed a short flypast in 2005 when the winning bid was announced, but their flypast at the Games was to have been truly spectacular.

It is to be hoped that common sense prevails

The Organisers are correct for declining the Arrows, the reasons may be as you outlined ( which are valid ) but in my opinion, even though I am a longtime fan of the team, The Red Arrows are as naff and outdated as Pearly Kings and Queens or Brigadoon Kilted Highlanders.

Surely we can come up something more original for the 2012 Games.

Whether the Red Arrows are considered outdated or not, I would like to see "them that be" think of a better alternative >:(

I'd have thought that most people on this planet would expect to see the Red Arrows & would probably be equally confused as to why they will not be included in what is going to be the biggest sporting event ever to be put on in this country.

Too militaristic ? ???.......A two fingered salute to the person who thought than one up :-*

What next ?....ban Poppy Day ::)

I'm fed up with these politically correct liberal lunatics who seem hell bent on sucking the tradition & patriotism from this nation. It's about time they bought back a few medieval torture devices for these s**t-stirrers, that ought to keep them quite ;)..... ;D

Do we need something original to celebrate something which has been running on and off for nearly 3000 years?? ;)

They'll be banning the games next because the losers might suffer emotional stress ;)

Petition signed. I have always admired the Red Arrows and what they stand for. ( as an extra piece of info I also have no problem with kilted Highlanders - occasionally being one myself)

different subject but similar lines;

i read somewhere recently that old soldiers may not be allowed to parade on rememberance day etc due to street closures, costs etc etc
yet, yesterday some of londons streets were closed off due to a bunch of retarded numpties, comunists etc parading around whinging about iraq.
from the spring onwards every year on a weekly basis bus routes in london are curtailed for some sort of demo/march which range from tamils whinging about somewhere, kurds jumping up n down, muslims marching for peace while carrying death to israel banners to a**ewipes that want to charge around the countryside tearing foxes in half for fun. but people that've fought for this country might not be allowed to parade? >:(

What!!!! >:( Britain is finished now. All these great & good left wingerswill always win & get their own way. Absolutely fed up with it. You wouldn't have thought we've won two world wars would you? We need radical action & now. Stuff this government. I hated Thatcher for some things, but at least she didn't have a problem with you smoking in the open air on a railway platform, blackboards or baa baa black sheep.
I mean come on, Some schools have even BANNED sports days because it causes upset if a child or their parent loses in a race. I also hear that in events as such, kids are taught that there are no losers & everyones a winner. So unrealistic to real life or what?
So who knows Highlander, your theory could very well be right?

such philosophy pete.........and quite true as we (the human race) never seems to learn from them as we keep having them.....
except.....
the advances that are accelerated because of them, especially medical and communication;
it was a frontline doctor in the first world war that invented the idea of blood transfusion, due to injuries in that war plastic surgery was born in its modern form
