Title: Object of ridicule
Post by Jaye_Martin on Oct 13th, 2007, 1:42pm
why is it that all my mates take the p... out of me for driving my Ultima.

Why does the car have such a poor reputation and why is it that my missus wants me to get rid of it. Why is it that my mates reckon it has the image of an old git or a tattoo'ed pikey sporting four chavs and a pit bull?

She reckons its an old codgers motor, but i keep telling her its the most comfortable car ive ever had.
Basically its getting on my nerves now and the next driver that cuts me up, calls me an old tosser for driving it or anything derogatory is going to get a good hiding

Angry?..you bet!!

Ignore them m8.The only people who slag off scorpios ,havent driven one,& how they can compare them to a pikey motor (usually a clapped out 7 series),is beyond me.I,ve always been into exec cars & i,ve owned nearly all of them inc...Mercs, (dont see what the fuss is about),Jags (wallet isnt that deep anymore,& if you think scorp electrics are bad !!!) & even beemers (not even getting into that one ).Basically pound for pound you wont get a more comfy, refined & individual car for "old banger" money. What do they drive ???? Mondeos ?? Vectras??? .To frightened to be individuals i you ask me.Sheep ...All of em >:(

Absolutely true, the one thing about the Scorp which is evident in this post is its sheer ability to oust ingnorance and to show up stupidity and JEALOUSY.....

You keep enjoying your Scorp, love it and maintain it correctly and it will still be there long after all the aforementioned have become cubical lumps of Chineese raw materials.... ;D ;D

jaye, drivers will always cut you up whatever you drive, thats a fact of life, when the red mist comes down is when accidents happen, just learn to smile when they do it that really confuses em...... ;D

Hi Jaye...I see from your profile that you arent exactly a spring chicken, so what kind of cars do your mates drive ?.....Subaru Impreza's or summat  ???

The Scorp is a fine car & I use mine every day as a licensed Taxi, & most punters reckon it's the most sumptuous & comfortable taxi on the rank....& it's nine years old  ;)

Comments of..."wow this is so comfy, smooth & quiet...I feel like I'm being chauffeured", & "it's got a fare bit of pull on it for a big motor", are not uncommon  ;)

Drive it with pride mate....I do  ;)

As they don't drive the car what the hell has it got to do with them!!. If you enjoy it that's all that matters. I've lost count of how many times I've been asked why I don't get a new car by those who must have the latest 'year plate'. Answer....." This will do anything yours will do in greater comfort, I like it and I haven't just lost a load of money driving it off the dealers forecourt nor am I paying a finance company a load of interest either!!.  ;D Just enjoy like the rest of us. ;)

I've owned Granadas and now the Scorpio for most of the last 20 years or so...and had to put up with comments from workmates when I was in my mid 20's like 'Why are you driving an old man's car ?'. That was till they got a ride in it - then it was 'Cor this is comfy !' or similar.
Ignore the comments, you've got a great car - enjoy it ! They are just jealous.

hiya Jonny cab..yep you are 'bang on' I am not a spring chicken ..but my mates drive Mercs and Bmw's etc..financed up to the hilt I haste to add.

Without sounding brash..I also have a Merc (all paid up) but I always drive my Ultima because of the comfort factor.

I am wishing that the ultima derv had the reliability of merc however because it always seems that just when i am starting to really enjoy the old girl..it lets me down......
Seriously, every time i go out in it, I always have to check my AA membership ..it has a mind of it's own  and has only done a miserly 81k.

I have known this car since new, my mate bought it with 1880 on clock, sold it to his aunty who completed 62k when i purchased it. It now has 81k on clock and always seems to be a let down..but I cant get rid of it cos its beauty is in it's uglyness and i always live in hope that after the latest repair..it wont let me down.....bit of a love hate relationship with this one.and my mates continue to rip the crap outta me.

I suppose with the Scorp starting to get on a bit, then things are gonna go wrong & need replacing & you have to have the enthusiam (& sometimes a fat wallet) to keep it on the road......just a case of weighing up the good & bad points  ;)

As for your mates....middle aged men acting like immature school children who take the pee out of the kid who doesn't have the latest 'in' trainers....shame on them  ::)

P.S...I live near to the biggest pikie camp in Europe & I've never seen any of them driving a Scorp....they do tend to drive around in expensive looking Beamers & Mercs though  ;)

Calling it names & beating it with a branch might help, although it never worked for Basil Fawlty  }{

She's obviously a touchy old girl.......all I can suggest is try treating it to some shiney new chrome valve caps & reading it a bedtime story  ;)...... ;D

Loud, obscene language works on mine  :o.Everytime the ABS light comes on (above 15mph) it just tell it to "go fourth & multiply" at maximum volume & it goes out.Honestly,it,s happened 5 times now & every time i shout it goes out.Pity it dosent work on the wife though  :'( ;D ;D
