ere we go again, gordon brown has promised to get tough on drunken yobs, i think we have heard this before from every PM and twopence halfpenny politician, will it ever get done i wonder? don,t hold your breath! all they ever do is talk about it, ACTION is what we want. "viv la revolution"

The aforementioned Gordon Brown has hit on a wonderful new idea as you may have heard.Training young people in the workplace and awarding certificates!What a brilliant wheeze!When I left school in 1956 it was called an apprenticeship.As my old dad used to say,"its all been done before"

Unless Gordon Brown is going to bring in some kind of totalitarian/fascist style law & order to deal with this problem, then I don't see how he will manage to accomplish this bold claim ???

For starters, alot of it is down to bad parenting....so what will he do ?....give every new born male child the snip, & when they are older & want to have children they have to pass an exam in order for the operation to be reversed ?

Then what ?......

Ban all violent/horrific etc DVDs & computer games etc ?......P.S...there is no doubt in my mind that violent & horrific computer games do affect the growing minds of youngsters & their perception of reality & ability to socialise :(

Ban the internet & mobile phones, so gangs of thugs can't get in touch with each other so easily & organise where & when the next 'happy slapping' will take place.

Ban the sale of spray cans.

Ban the sale of hooded tops.

Ban the sale of knives, screwdrivers, matches, lighters etc......well anything that can harm really.

Ban cars, to stop thieves & joyriders.

Ban shops, to stop shoplifters.

........Stop me if I'm going too far ;D......

.....But seriously though, the youth of today have too much access to the things that were once considered 'for adults only' & their minds have to take in so much more than ours when we were younger.

I'll admit that that is no excuse for the behaviour of so many youngsters today, but has anyone actually sat back & thought that maybe technology may actually play a part in all this juvanile unrest ?

Young children are loosing their innocent childhoods too early & their minds are being filled with & affected by images of violence, horror, death & destruction by greedy manufacturers/advertisers who can now sell/advertise products that were once deemed harmful to young minds. Images on TV are alot more graphic than they ever were & absolutely any kind of image can be accessed simply by the click of a mouse.

Or.....maybe, what we are seeing now is a vision of the future.........the roots of a new orderless society ? ???.........Maybe the human race has reached it's pinnacle & is now starting to regress back to savagery ?...... :-/

That certainly would explain a few things that are going on in the world today..... ;)

Anyway......that's my thought for the day ;D

I have to totally disagree jc

Compared to my parents, I had loads more than they had (yes, including technology and media etc.).

The difference was that if I stepped out of line my old man gave me a smack and told me not to do it again. I learned ;)

Modern parents don't/can't do that for (allegedly) not wanting to infringe their ~~annoying little barsteward~~ child's "human rights, innit" :-/ :-/ :-/

Children are the responsibility of their parents. Story. Of. End.

If you can't deal with that fact, then keep your legs shut ;D

As I usually tell parents on planes - "your children, your problem" ;). It certainly ain't my problem but I'm not allowed to complain about the evil little pink things making huge amounts of noise and treating the seats as playthings rather than, er, part of the safety equipment :-/

Pistonbroke....you say you disagree, but isn't everything you wrote, agreeing with one of my first points about bad parenting ?

It seems that we were lucky enough to have parents that taught us respect & the difference between right & wrong ;)

Alot of these repribates that roam the streets & cause trouble have obviously never had the parental guidance that we had......Maybe they come from broken homes, or maybe the parents are just too engrossed in their own lives to worry about what their kids are doing :(

But one thing is for sure though....if the parents have no sense of respect, then you can guarantee that their off-spring will have even less :(

As for childrens minds & perception of the world being infected by the anti-social phenomena known as violent & graphic computer games.....most of us lateral thinking members of society are intelligent enough to see these games as just a form of entertainment.....

......But to many young maturing minds, these things can become a kind of reality & cause very aggressive tendancies.....especially when alcohol & drugs are thrown into the mix...... toward any innocent bystander who happens to cross their path ???

.........Just my opinion though :P...... ;D

"Planes" .... when I was a child I would have never had the chance to go on a plane..... ???......Still haven't been on one..... :(

unfortuneately that unelected to**er brown is just doing what politicians have always done and always will do; 'words that the majority of ignorant populace want to hear'. that grinning insincere imbecile blair did the same; 'tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime' yeah right.
the other year i was horrified when blair pushed through a new law/bill that meant if you're carrying a firearm you automatically can be sentenced to 5 years, excuse me? forgive me for being ignorant on the matter, but surely that kind of sentence was already in place? we live in a country where (ok a few exceptions with licence) firearm possesion is illegal, therefore, if i get caught carrying a loaded revolver surely i've committed enough offences to 'go down' for some years? the gun, the ammo, the intent to injure or kill is argueably there, so why the need for a new bill? oh hold on, i get the idea, kids are shooting each other, its constantly in the media, lets use their deaths to make ourselves sound and look good to gain voters, exactly the same was done after dunblane.
