I purchased my first MK3 Granada Scorpio when I was 23 and owned it for 8 months. Now 24 I've just moved up in the world to a 2.3 Ultima.

Anyone here around my age? I do get a lot of grief of my mates for it calling it a "Grandad Car" etc but for me it's perfect and I couldn't give a monkies what they think! (Strange how they all change their minds when they get in though and realise it's more comfortable than sitting on their sofas!)

It was meant to be the comfy car to compliment my toy (other car is a VX220) but I find the Scorpio more of a toy to play with than my VX!

Well, you beat me !
I was 24 when I bought my first Granada - a Mk2 2.3GL auto saloon in a hideous apple green metallic finish with a black vinyl roof - only kept it a month as the engine was clapped and could only get about 16mpg out of it. Bought a 2.8 Ghia 6 months later ans have had Granadas and now my Scorpio for most of the time since.
Yes, my mates called it a 'Grandad car' till they sat in it and then the silence was deafening ;D

I'm 23 at the moment, and I've already had my scorpio for a couple of years now :)

Iirc, tiberius is around our age too. (My apologies in advance if I'm mistaken)

Your mates have a dread of feeling inferior among their kind,and most will have howling little euroboxes with which to impress one another. You have reached the stage of mature appreciation of top class tackle,they will remember you when they are fully grown!

I was 21 when I bought my first Scorpio Granada. It was a 4x4 2.8i on a C plate and was only a couple of years old...

Now 44 and owned umpteen including MKI's and MKII's

id just turned 21 when i got my first cossie ;D my mates to the mick to unitll i got them in it and found a quiet road and gunned it ;) owned 4 of them, still got 3 lol

26 here ! I was 24 when i got my first scorp mind, and yes everyone calls me grandad in it ! I joke that i keep my flat cap and slippers in the boot :p

I was 27yrs, which i thought was young for a Scorpio 2.9 12v V6 owner, now at 33 I have bought another. Having grown bored and unsatisfied with a 54 plate Mondeo, and 03 plate Omega. I have just found a met red 2.3 R reg and am in love. Pipe and slippers who cares.

I was 19 when I got my first Granada.

Mk1 3.0 Ghia Coupé it was, swapped it for a Mk2 Facelift 2.8i Ghia X Exec Granada. Must have had 20 Granadas by now.

I was 36 when I bought my first Scorpio.

I am 27 at the moment but I was 24 when I had my first Scorpio. However I was 17 when I had my first Granada a 1986 2.0GL and I have had a 1992 DOHC Granada Scorpio and a 1994 2.9V6 12v Granada Scorpio also. Bit sad but I always cruised around in comfort and luxury rather than out and out speed, theirs always someone faster than you anyway! When I go in so called modern 'good' cars like Golfs, Saxo's, Mondeos (excluding the new one haven't been in one of those yet), Passats and the like I am always unimpressed with the refinement and equipment in cars almost 10 years newer, this was the same for the Granada as well at the time.

Insurance was a bomb but being handed the keys to that car and driving it home on a crisp September day, something I still remember...

What's wrong with a 'Grandad's pipe and slippers' car? All my cars have been that to an extent, I still get glances 'Is that your Dad's car?' sort of thing. But I enjoy them, they help make the bad days seem better. Who cares what people think? I'd rather have a rusty old Scorpio, Capri, Jag with tonnes of charm and character than some chavved up econobox with a big tailpipe and rims but none of either charm or character, lots of noise but no grunt where it matters..

Savvy, I too was 23 when i first bought my mk3 Scorpio. I guess you just get used to people/mates who drive 'normal' cars giving you stick. It's not as bad now, but when I had a yellow Maxi, followed by a 3.0 senator (a strange jump, I know)when I was 18, that was when insults were at their peak.
However, it makes you happy in the knowledge that your car is considerably better than theirs, then keep driving it!!!

i still get funny looks when i tell people i have a scorpio, especially on the vx220 forum ;D

mention cosworth and they seem more interested!

my second car when i was19 was a granada 2.8 ghia x . present from my old man . untill i bought the scorpio i have now , it was by far the best car i have ever owned, i do like my comfort and that (and my scorpio now) ticked all the boxes........i know it aint a scorpio but what the hell ;D

Coming into the scorpio fold at 32 makes me feel like an old man ;D

Wanted one for ages but my Sierra's occupied (and still do to a large extent) my life from 17 :)

My first car (Cortina Mk5 1600 GLS) came to me at 15 - and I still have it too lol

My Scorpio was given to me when I was 27, I hadn't realised I'd had it that long to be honest...2 years now :) I've got a Capri and a Mk1 Fiesta too but people always slate me for the Scorpio :( They seem to think I have it for a donor car and not for the fact that it's dead comfy and lush to drive on the motorways ???

One of my mates calls it the Scorpedo which kinda makes me laugh :D
