Title: Re: Something Unusual on ebay Post by bizzay1 on Mar 23rd, 2008, 5:51pm I must admit, I always thought they were poo as well, but it is in good condition for it's age |

Title: Re: Something Unusual on ebay Post by TiberiuS on Mar 24th, 2008, 12:13am Aye, it's in nice condition, I'll give you that. But still a lump of poo though, witness the complete rock bottom of the British car industry right before your eyes :( I mean 4 grand for that? Come on.. |

Title: Re: Something Unusual on ebay Post by TRACEYS_LIMO on Mar 24th, 2008, 2:47pm how many bidders :o |

Title: Re: Something Unusual on ebay Post by taliban aka Cheekyboy2 on Mar 24th, 2008, 3:36pm wouldnt be quite so bad if it was the original pile of poo; marina, but its a pile of poo they tried to polish then give it the name ital, bit like the metro and rover 100.......hmmmm.....interesting, what other polished t**ds are there in the car world?? didnt they do something similar with the austin princess? square steering wheel? incidentally the range rover used to use morris marina door handles...... |

Title: Re: Something Unusual on ebay Post by Ultima2300 on Mar 24th, 2008, 10:41pm I had one of these for a very short while. A 1.7 in hearing aid beige. It was the worst handling most tail-happy hoot to drive. I got rid before before it killed me ;) Geoff |

Title: Re: Something Unusual on ebay Post by gozz on Mar 24th, 2008, 10:44pm Now now lads,spare a thought for the great products of the British motor industry!Could it be that the Ital and it's ilk assisted in the downfall of this once proud organisation,or could it be that those vehicles were the best that the union ridden firms were able to churn out amidst overwhelming industrial unrest? GOZZ |

Title: Re: Something Unusual on ebay Post by Scorpio_Mike on Mar 24th, 2008, 10:59pm A rare find indeed and doubtless unique but NOTHING could persuade me to part with so much as 1p for it ! It's a cr*p car - end of story. I can think of a few more interesting things to spend 4 grand on - like a nice Porsche 944 or even a 928 or maybe a few Scorpios.... |

Title: Re: Something Unusual on ebay Post by mr._floppy on Mar 25th, 2008, 12:20pm It's interesting that while the Morris Minor, Austin 1100 and the Mini are well loved icons of British Motoring the Marina, Allegro and Maxi are universally despised. Yet only a few years separated these models, same designers, same workforce, even the same components. I put it to you that they were all rubbish, draughty rustbuckets with feeble power units with scarce enough grunt to pull the skin off a banana. :-/ |

Title: Re: Something Unusual on ebay Post by taliban aka Cheekyboy2 on Mar 25th, 2008, 2:44pm different companies flop, by the time the all aggro etc were in production the company was BL. i think the minor, mini & austins were ok (some might've been quite good) for the uk motoring era they were designed in i.e. 50's 60's but they were never really developed over the years* and by the time the companies were amalgamated new designs had to be derived, but they also had to be in production quickly and cheaply, they also had to be desirable and affordable to the public, then throw in constant strikes and the recipe equals disaster. the first morris minor off the production line looked just the same as the last years later, compare to ford even, say the cortina, how many model changes over the years.....constant upgrading..... |

Title: Re: Something Unusual on ebay Post by TiberiuS on Mar 25th, 2008, 8:01pm It's a bit like the Trabant, the people of the ex-communist block have a love hate relationship with the Trabby.. LOL Geoff, hearing aid beige? Wasn't any relation to 'Cross channel sickness green' was it? I like that, might have the Capri resprayed a similar shade ;D ;) |
||
Title: Re: Something Unusual on ebay Post by Scorpio_Mike on Mar 25th, 2008, 10:31pm Think I'd rather drive a Trabant than an Ital... ;D |

Title: Re: Something Unusual on ebay Post by peteHull on Mar 25th, 2008, 10:40pm I used to own a Wartburg for 13 years, same engine as a Trabby, it would leave all the roots cars standing, (in a cloud of sweet smelling blue smoke) 3 cylinder 2 stroke.... ;D ;D ::) Pete |
