Title: the quality of uk drivers amazes me......
Post by taliban aka Cheekyboy2 on May 13th, 2008, 11:03pm
constantly.

yesterday afternoon im at kings cross driving my bus along the grays inn road approaching a bus stop i have to serve. now then, this bit of road is 2 lane one way, the bus stop is on the left but set back so that it doesnt interfere with traffic flow, however, immediately after the bus stop the road has a left hand bend (with traffic lights) which both lanes follow, so leaving the bus stop you have to wait for the traffic to let you in. so, as i say im approaching the stop, both lanes are busy; outside lane full of cars nearside has a flatbed lorry, double rear axle type over 30' long, traffic lights are red, but, 'ello, whats this? ahead of me in the empty bus stop is a rather flash merc sports car, 07 plate, 80k? i thought the numpty has obviously tried to undertake the lorry using the bus stop but now has absolutely nowhere to go and like me will have to wait to be let back in the lane. i pick up 1 passenger he looks at the merc, looks at me we both laugh, then the lights go green, both our jaws dropped; the merc instead of waiting went for it!!! it had nowhere to go, it was alongside the lorry approaching a left hand bend and no road ahead. i saw the lorry drivers face in his n/s mirror, he just raised an eyebrow changed gear and sped up, then......BANG!!! crunch crunch crunch, i sat there and watched the merc get bounced the length of the lorry, them mercs can bounce! lots! after they'd pulled up and i went past what was driving the merc? a leggy blonde bimbo  }{ }{ }{ }{ }{

oh yeah, there wasnt much left of the merc's drivers side.......

2 blatantly obvious points;

1) shes polish, and therefore wouldnt have made the manouvre in the first place....

and

2) how good is your girlfriends erm plain english when shes stressed, upset, angry, scared, just plain lost it after being bounced up n down by a lorry.....

I'm just pulling your leg tali, couldn't agree more about the quality of driving especially in London.

Yo Tali, you ain't seen nothing yet. Bring your bendy to sunny old Clacton and I'll show you some bad driving which will make the jolly old Londoners seem like novices :-/

The amount of chavs in their Saxos or Beemers overtaking lines of traffic on the A133 still amazes me, no wonder there's carnage on the roads around here :-/

While the merc driver was obviously incredibly stupid, I don't think the lorry driver deserves any credit for his actions either.

                 I agree with the second point about the lorry driver,  ??? however, I feel the merc driver may have been in the position that I have often found myself in.   :( What people don't consider while flying about in thier home towns is that someone who has maybe never been to the town before might simply have been overwhelmed in a heavy traffic situation (which is what is indicated here)  :-[

While I agree that there are many stupid people driving around, everyone should have a little more consideration and manners.  To drive is a privalige and not a right.
I can travel around our city without even thinking about which route I'm taking because I know the roads like the back of my hand (even down to pohole level)  ::)
I therefore don't even have to be thinking about all the extra information one needs when persuing an unfamiliar route.   :-/ I think we should ALL just calm down and think more about the consequences of our actions upon others.  >:(
(Imagine being somewhere like in the middle of an 8 lane rural intersection in the middle of Antwerp with a caravan in tow, without even an inckling of where you wanted to be, in the middle of rush hour traffic, all the locals are flying about wanting to get home.  It is no fun believe me, I have been there and done it....)

If everyone just had a little more patience, consideration and understanding the road system would be a far better system to travel on. ???

Just my views....

Pete

the lorry driver deserves full credit for entertaining me no end, however on the serious side of it he should've stopped when he realised what was about to happen, that said i think she would've kept going until she was jammed between railings and lorry.
pete, i dont think road familarity comes into this situation, shes not even in a traffic lane shes driven into a bus stop and im assuming to put her foot down and undertake, but even if thats not the case and she ended up there quite innocently then surely she is able to read the road 20 or so yards ahead, realise there is nowhere to go, think oh bu**er (as you do), indicator on and wait for someone to let her in. as you say driving is a privilage not a right and i would seriously question her privilage to drive if she cant read a simple situation like that.
its because of numpties like her that cause us bus drivers (and other large vehicles) to often 'straddle' 2 lanes that go round bends as its safer for all concerned. i dunno, maybe car drivers dont get enough training on other road users......

Hi Pete, I agree with you mate. A lot of accidents happen because people are impatient and don't read the road ahead, I was taught you (should have) already read the section of road you're driving over now and now be reading what's a few seconds in front onwards. Too many people are reading what they're passing over and oblivious to anything else ::)

I'm a laid back driver, if I'm stuck in slow moving traffic I'll often let someone in from another lane, same with cars turning right in front of me on a busy road, if there's space I'll often give 'em a flash..I always think that I could be there without a hope in hell of getting accross, cue of cars stuck behind me...as long as they use a TURN SIGNAL, something that here in Essex seems an optional extra not fitted in many cars ::).

What really gets me (going OT now, sorry Tali ;)) is if you're following a car and you leave a fair gap (as I often do, just in case), often the guy behind will start tailgating and expect you to close that gap although you're keeping pace with the cars ahead fine..

It all comes back to bad driving though..

Regards, Bruce :)
