Title: Insurance Advice
Post by - Mike - on Sep 17th, 2008, 7:09pm
Several years ago I bought the wife a car to learn to drive in, but as to date she hasn't driven it and hasn't had any lessons. Therefore there was only me using it which I did for four years before cancelling the insurance and taking it off the road. So to date she has four years no claims (valid for two years after cancellation I believe).
I now have the opportunity to trade the car against another (cheaper to run than the Scorpio) but feel that the insurance may be too difficult/costly to get for her on the new car and so would probably need to register it in my name, hence the new problem I need to insure this as well the Scorpio.
Are there, for example, companies out there who will insure two cars on one policy OR allow your no claims to be duplicated on another policy?  I know there is multi-car policies but aren't they for two drivers?
Starting a new policy for me without any no claims would make it impossible to accept the new car.

Thanks  :)

I think you have just got to shop around in todays market and get some quotes for what you require . YOU may well be pleasantly suprised.
I hope so .

I had insurance on a second car, it was the wifes but in my name, and a company called quoteline direct honored my ncd which I was using on the scorp as well with a different company (privelage I think), it made it all afordable because the wife uses her ncd on her mini bus that she uses for her business

More Than duplicated my full no claims bonus for my wife when she came off her aunts policy 2 years ago now as she was only a named driver on aunts policy, she had been doing this for years before we met.  I believe they and others still do this.

My commercial van insuranace companyt also duplicated my private full no claims bonus when i bought a van for my shop 3 years ago.

So shop around and ask questions, what's the worst that can happen, "The computer say's NO"

Good luck
