Title: Re: Sunday afternoon I will mostly....part 2 Post by Jonnycab on Oct 17th, 2008, 2:23am Had a little play about with the welder today...wow, what fun :D Managed to weld together a few bits of old dexion. It's not a particularly pretty sight, so my technique is gonna need a little practice ;) Any tips would be welcome, especially on what the ideal amperage & wire feed speed settings are for getting a good tidy weld with minimal splatter :) P.S....I've no intention of setting fire to my head as with my hair being the length it is, then it could quite easily turn into a raging inferno.......might have to get the wife to tie it in a bun & wrap a wet towel around my head. The neighbours will probably think I've become a sikh, but it's better than a trip to the burns unit ;D |

You are doin it just to get your hair done in a bun... ;D but you'll certainly need the burns unit if sparks go down ye neck... ::) ;D If you're using gassles wire it will spatter cos it is treated with a flux.... ??? settings will depend on thickness and quality of material you're welding so trial and error prevails. dexion is good to practice on.... enjoy yourself and don't get a flash.... :o I arn't sure if you need to disconnect the alternator but I would to be safe... ??? If in doubt Sihk advice.... ;D You can do it.... ;) pete |

Title: Re: Sunday afternoon I will mostly....part 2 Post by cossie_al on Oct 17th, 2008, 10:06am Lol @ pete ;D ;D Probably stating the obvious here jonny but the cleaner you can get the metal before welding the better. give it a good tickle with the grinder first :) If youve got a lot of welding to do wear gloves also or you will end up with sun burnt knuckles. As pete says I always disconect the alternator and battery. |
