the one on the dash is the immobiliser. there is no red light down by the gear stick by default, probably somebody has fitted an after market alarm system or something... |

Title: Re: Little red light Post by Highlander on Apr 25th, 2009, 2:25pm have you got a picture of it or give us the exact location? Does sound like an "extra" though ;) |

Title: Re: Little red light Post by tonyboy on Apr 25th, 2009, 9:16pm Hello. I'll send you a picture tomorrow. But the light is on the right hand side and just above the gear shift. The remote i have is'nt the original just has one button for the central locking and the alarm ( i think ). and another button that doesn't seem to do anything but if i press that button for about 5 seconds the alarm goes off ??? |

Title: Re: Little red light Post by wojtekor on Apr 25th, 2009, 9:19pm there you go... you've got an after market alarm system fitted... hence the additional red light and this strange remote... no need for pics. ;) if you take off the glove compartment there should be a flat black unit with 3 sockets and 2 plugs in it, it's just over the ECU. if you have the unit you can get an original remote and programme it. if there's no unit there are plugs left and you can use them to plug in an after market keyless entry system together with the boot release etc. |

Title: Re: Little red light Post by tonyboy on Apr 25th, 2009, 9:26pm Thanks for the info. saying that my key don't unlock the doors they just lock them and start the car. Maybe it's had new locks in the past |

Title: Re: Little red light Post by wojtekor on Apr 25th, 2009, 9:33pm if you can lock them but can't unlock it's most likely your locks need changing as they got used... you can fit in a keyless entry system to solve the problem ;) even if you have got the unit i wrote about, an after market keyless entry system can be fitted in without any difficulties and it's cheaper then getting a good working and not worn original remote ;) if you decide to fit in the aftermarket keyless entry system, let me know so i can post a wiring diagram here to make it easy for you. plugging one in doesn't require anything but taking off the the glove compartment ;) |

Title: Re: Little red light Post by Highlander on Apr 25th, 2009, 9:58pm does your key not unlock any doors or the boot? Could be worn locks or possibly its had a new ignition barrel and key, any Ford key will lock your door |

Title: Re: Little red light Post by tonyboy on Apr 25th, 2009, 10:44pm is there a cure :) |

Title: Re: Little red light Post by Highlander on Apr 25th, 2009, 10:48pm They can just seize up due to not being used, try freeing it up with WD40 and the key. if not you're looking at lock rebuild kits. I'd advise getting at least one lock done in case the batteries run out in your remote (they will one day) and the boot lock takes that moment to join the rest of them and go on strike. Then you're either smashing windows or speaking nicely to Snoopy so he can teach you the dark arts of Scorpio unlocking ;) |

Do you have more than one key? I have 3 keys including the all important red one. Red opens, locks and starts. One black one opens locks and starts but the other only locks and starts, won't open and it looks more worn than the other. Keep meaning to get a new one cut but so long as I have the fob I'm ok (missus has the all round key) Regards, Mark |

Ah, but I changed the battery when I got the car and I tin foiled the buttons too (aren't mince pies wonderful in more than one way). Mind you, if I park it up away from home for so long it switches off the receiver then yes, I admit I would be well and truly screwed. :o |
