Title: Wheel torque wrench V Impact drill
Post by tonyboy on May 22nd, 2009, 9:26pm
Hello. Just been talking to my work mate who knows a little bit about motors. He was saying that he never lets a garage use an impact drill to tighten the wheel nuts up, and he insits  that they use a torque wrench...... Whats the better ......Torque wrench or impact drill....or don't it matter.......... ???

dont use a impact drill as normally if you need to take wheel off at a later date it can be a pain in the rear and you dont want that when you get a puncture and its raining heavily

I think it all depends on what they are set at and who is using them, there seems to be a few tyre fitters who like the impact wrench because they can make them that tight only King Kongs dad can get them off  ;D

hi there

i don't mind them using them as i always torque them afterwards.

most of the garages have them set to be near enough the correct 'tightness', now a days.

also, if too tight, can affect your brake discs.

I never take the vehicles near a tyre place, just the wheels every time, and when I acquire a vehicle, the breaker bar and scaffold tube are deployed, after which the nuts are retightened firmly to allow removal at the roadside when necessary.
There is always a chance that 'King Kong's dad' may not be to hand when required, and even if he were he may break the little puny Ford wheelbrace  8)
