Title: Ebay hacker? Post by homer2themax on Jun 5th, 2009, 11:43pm Anyone else had notification from Ebay that their password has become known to a third party? Mine was compromised a couple of nights ago and had to reset my password twice. Just wondering if this is a personal thing or whether there's a bot attempting to gain access. Same thing happened to me several years ago and I couldn't remember the answers to my secret questions which resulted in my account being closed and subsequent loss of a large amount of 100% positive feedback. My advice to all ebay users is to check your secret questions and all information is up to date as this could happen to you. Regards, Mark |

Title: Re: Ebay hacker? Post by homer2themax on Jun 6th, 2009, 11:58pm First I knew about it was being asked to log in again even though I'd logged in quite recently. Kept telling me my password was invalid. Then when I checked my emails there was one from Ebay warning me that someone had learnt my password and that it had been reset for security reasons. The email was genuine, had my full name etc and was secure. I remember ebay recently advising that they were monitoring IP addresses that were commonly used for ebay logins and that should you login from an IP address not normally used it would ask further security questions. Obviously persons unknown or the bot could not successfully answer these questions and was therefore denied access. Has this happened to you? Mark |

Title: Re: Ebay hacker? Post by adam on Jun 7th, 2009, 12:16am No luckily enough Mark it hasn't. Just be very careful when dealing with emails allegedly from Ebay. In the past i have had several "genuine" emails from fraudsters trying to hack into my account. I forwarded them onto the Ebay fraud team. Some had my full name and even address, so obviously somewhere down the line a seller or buyer had inadvertently passed on this info. I never respond to any messages from "Ebay" in my personal email address. Sounds like someone has tried to access your account without your knowledge. Hope all is safe and secure for you. |
