Post by big_neil on Jun 27th, 2009, 4:01pm
it must be the weather we are having, now i,m doing a little job for a lady and starting early so i,m meeting more traffic,as if it aint enough being swiped by mobile phone users it,s the" i,ll have my breakfast while i,m driving to work" people.
driving while noshing on huge baquettes full of bacon and egg, then drinking out of them insulated mugs full of tea or coffee.
has anyone else met them?

Know what you mean Big Neil  ;).... My fav is the driverless car that seems to wander about the road in front of you, or even worse, coming toward you  :o.... all of a sudden a head will pop up above the steering wheel & after a quick evasive manoeuvre, the car drives normal again.
Looking for that really important CD in the glovebox no doubt  ???

my biggest bug bear is people on mobile phones ggrrrrrrr what annoys me most is that most of the culprits tend to drive top end motors , they spend 30k on a motor but cant afford a tenner for a bluetooth headset :o i paid 9 quid for my motorola headset from that shop "savers"

What really get's me going is when you see people yakking on their mobile actually get into their car, start it and drive away still talking! Seen several people do this.
Why the confused expression on their faces when I lean on my horn for a full minute?

Can I have a moan???

Why is it that on a clear bright night people are compelled to drive with their front fog lights on, but on a dark, rainy day they opt to drive without lights at all??
On a grey, rainy day a grey car makes little impact on a rain spattered wing mirror! (on my van).

people using mobiles while driving are great, i view them as a legitimate target for my bus, i generally let people out of junctions etc but if i see a mobile then they dont exist and so be it if 13 tonne of double decker squashes them. cyclists riding along talking on a mobile are another good one, they tend to jump a long way when i sound a 24v bus horn, pedestrians are quality too; striding out across a road not looking while chatting on a phone......

Hmm.....

Think my favourite are the "pop up" heros who queue jump on narrow country roads - either by overtaking oncoming into my path with too little room or just overtaking and carving me up to get back in before causing a head on (im a white van man by day BTW :) ) - my usual response it to give a big "thumbs up" gesture whilst visibly mouthing the word "W@#KER" :)

They KNOW they're in the wrong as they try to either pretend you dont exist when they go past or you can see them fixed in their rear view once they've overtaken you .....

ah people walking into the road while on mobiles are my favorites too , as a london cabbie you sort of develop a sixth sence and know they are going to step out , a massive blast on the horn soon wakes em , i like to get as close as possible before blowin the horn , ive actually made 3 people drop there phones thro fright ;D
but some people even try and make out its my fault that they steppe into the road , and they give me a right mouthful :o
i just laugh at em , and that winds them up even more ;D
the great british public.......you gotta love `em

I know what you mean Rich  ;)....some people just won't admit that they are in the wrong, & being a cab driver sometimes makes you more of a target for aggression than other road users, for some reason  ::)

A fellow cabbie in my area knocked over some drunk a couple of weeks ago when the guy suddenly staggered out into the road in front of him. He wasn't going very fast (about 20mph), but fast enough to cause injuries.
Unfortunately, this drunk guy had alot of drunk mates with him who, on witnessing their mate being knocked over by a cab, pulled the driver out of his car & kicked him black & blue  :o

The cabbie & guy that was knocked over were taken away in ambulances & although there were witnesses (several cab drivers sitting in the rank opposite), the police didn't take any witness statements or arrest any of this guys mates  ???

After I was assaulted a couple of years ago & it took the police about 3 months to do anything, I was thinking that maybe the police thought assaults on taxi drivers as a trivial crime  :-/....

Now I am convinced that the police see assaults on taxi drivers as trivial. They seem to regard us as second class citizens & think that it's our fault for putting ourselves in high risk situations  ???

Can you believe that the story didn't even make the local rag, it was that unimportant  ::)

Couldn't agree more m8 as a fellow taxi driver they dot give a dam about us a couple of our guys have had experiences the same and like you say we are treated like second class citizens and not just by the police and passengers but many other institutes great is it not we have to pay an annual fee to be abused day and night by  customers who all think you earn a fortune we wish i have been in the game 23 years this year but will be off on the hgv's in september as i am sick of 18hr days to make a living rant over from m8  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

PS ANYONE WANT TO BUY CHEAP TAXI  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

ive got a mate whos also a london cabbie , who was pulling out of his mum and dads drive way one night when he was blocked off by a car , the 2 blokes in it then jumpe out and tried to pull my mate out of his cab , when he fought back they attacked him with a knife leaving him with a huge cut across the top of his head , luckily a few people heard the commotion and came to his rescue , the police caught the 2 blokes but they got stupid sentences (not even a year if i remember rightly) my mate can no longer work nights because of it , and this was 9 years ago , it shook him up badly
