Title: Thats useful.....

Come across today what i think could be the most pointless, useless, half-witted thing EVER to be added to a car.

Stand up and take a bow...... MERCEDES !

2006 E320 Saloon comes into RPM for new brake discs and upper arms.

All goes well, everything fitted, wheels back on.. time for a test drive :)

BUT....

Theres a problem.

Something ABS related according to our diagnostic system, but its a series of 3 codes that arent in our books (useful to start with)  However, the reeeeal crowning glory is announced by the central display as " Brake Failure !" followed by " SIMULATED BRAKE REDUCTION"

"SIMULATED BRAKE REDUCTION" ???

What this translates to basically that instead of being satisfied with a warning light on the dash, some bright spark at Merc actually programmed the ABS to simulate failure of the brakes.... soft pedal, and minimal braking effort available even if you floor the pedal.  Now, I can understand you want someone with a brake problem to head to a garage or dealer ASAP, but at what point is it even safe to the ABS to simulate having no brakes just because of a possible sensor failure ?  What would have happened if a sensor had failed at 70+ mph on a motorway which suddenly came to a halt.... ?

Someone really should be whipped for this IMO - I personally will NEVER consider a Mercedes knowing they put stuff like this on their cars..... >:(

Anyone else come across pure stupidity like this on a car ?

Saw a woman in a brand new open top Merc a couple of months ago pull up at the lights.....when they turned green she put her foot down & all that happened was the rear wheels span.......the front brakes had locked up  ???

A few of us got out of our cars & tried to push her out the way, but the Merc was having none of it......& the dizzy 50ish year old blonde driver seemed quite upset...... She even took her sunglasses off at one point & you could see the mascara streaming down her cement covered, face-lifted cheeks  :(......... }{

Didn't hang around, but I presume the AA turned up & dragged it onto a low loader  :D
