Title: Another Scorpio first! Post by Highlander on Jul 16th, 2009, 1:33am Was doing a check for Torbjörn (tlundkvi) of his car specs its a German built 24v Ultima saloon, which came fitted with 7 spoke alloys AND self levelling rear suspension! First time i've seen it fitted to a standard saloon, is it still fitted Torbjörn or has it been replaced with standards? I did notice you were looking for air shocks on another thread though. Any chance of some pics?? ;D next mission is to find a Scorpio with an LSD fitted?? ;D |

Thank you VERY much for this info. It's highly appreciated! It had indeed self-levelling when I bought it, but I was always unsure the first months. I shot the shockers by mistake when moving back with the car full of stuff, I drove the car up a garage ramp, bounced badly so they started leaking (tested), ground clearance was then so bad the wheels almost touched the wheelarchs. I replaced them with regular ones. The rear was sagging (64cm up to wheelarch), so I decided to fit new springs. Did so, but did get no noticeably better clearance. So now I have new springs, built to spec but too soft by construction. Should have ordered from abroad instead of buy the only ones available here, LESJÖFORS (it's a respected brand, but they sold a self-levelling ONLY as a self levelling ALSO, i.e. wrong specs they make for wrong models, will complain to the manufacturer). So now it's new springs of a proven brand (probably the HD KYBs) that support the car as such, or air shockers. I'm really not looking forward to spend a lot on suspension. Anyone with a still decent extra set of either air-shockers or still good HD springs? Sadly, I only have 12-spokes installed. In Germany it's common to sell off the second set of rims for the car for the winter tyres, somebody sold the rarer one and kept the other. Most cars below 1000 euros come with summer tires only, although they use a 2nd set of friction tires. This car is BTW a sleeper, there is absolutely no logos anywhere to reveal this. And Ultima is unheard of in Germany. I checked mobile.de, autoscout.de, anywhere, never an Ultima. On a picture it looks regular. Left front door will be replaced soon. LSD diff, was that an option you could see from the program? |

All the pipework is there, there is a compressor behind the bumper and a linkage to a sensor at the rear. Flipped in the vents behind the mud protection panels in the wheelhouse. |

Title: Re: Another Scorpio first! Post by tlundkvi on Jul 16th, 2009, 2:12pm Can someone with HD springs measure the thickness of the coil wire and the coil length, I think Sierra estate springs could fit. They are 1,25mm thicker in wire and 13 mm longer. The stock springs for mine were 14,75mm thick, 141mm diam. and 297mm long Sierra STW springs are 16mm, 310mm and 141mm A Mk1-2 Granada STW spring has 17mm, 333mm, 142mm, but that will make the scorp look like an SUV. |

Title: Re: Another Scorpio first! Post by tlundkvi on Jul 16th, 2009, 4:48pm Tried them before I got these wrong right ones, but all mails were bounced. Guess I should ask them again to at least measure the coil spring. If they don't post I will try to arrange Interparcel collection. Parcelforce which they use is very expensive to the mainland. I was warned by Jonnycab who once had these I have (Lesjöfors 4227551). They are not bad quality, they are just intended of self-levelling only. And they are weaker by construction because of the extra support the shocks give. Is it 100% certain the standard saloon without self levelling has a coil of the above mentioned dimensions? It seems impossible to me. |
