Title: It's time for a change Post by bizzay1 on Jul 24th, 2009, 2:03pm The way things have worked out, I need a small reliable car for my new job. I have been made redundant at the last place - I'm happy with that, but the cossie is going to be too big to use for my new job which involves driving to customers houses so a great deal of stop/start and the 2.9 won't get any cheaper to run. The tax is out at the end of october and the mot is due the first week in november and I feel that this year will be too much to pass so it is an ideal time to take advantage of the government scrappage scheme :'( The question I have for everyone is - what should I buy ? I have been looking at a hyundai i20, a mazda 2, a suzuki swift and even a mini (but I think that is an expensive, impractical option) Any advice would be appreciated. forgot to mention - ideally looking for 5 doors and 5 seats |

Title: Re: It's time for a change Post by tonyboy on Jul 24th, 2009, 2:55pm Could you sell the car to an enthusiast or swap for another car and scrap that one instead. Seems a shame to let a scorp go to the scrappage scheme |

Title: Re: It's time for a change Post by bizzay1 on Jul 24th, 2009, 3:30pm unfortunately the car I trade in has to have been owned by me for 12 months prior to using it, much as I would love to pass it on to another member no one in their right mind would pay more than about £200 for it let alone the scrappage value, which against the hyundai is £3500 |

Title: Re: It's time for a change Post by Chris_Basel on Jul 24th, 2009, 3:31pm I hate the whole idea of this scrappage scheme, but unfortunately you need to have owned the car for at least 12 months to qualify for it. The dealer puts up half anyway, so you can probably negotiate a fair amount in discount without using the scrappage allowance. |

Title: Re: It's time for a change Post by Chris_Basel on Jul 24th, 2009, 3:33pm As I understand it, the government only put up £1000 |

Title: Re: It's time for a change Post by pinto on Jul 24th, 2009, 6:42pm Keep the cossie and buy something small, cheap and diesel :) - that way you're saving the money you'd flush down the toilet buying a nasty little datsun ;D Serously, go check ebay and see what you can pick up for a fraction of the cost... |
