Title: The perfect Scorpio
Post by tonyboy on Sep 12th, 2009, 8:44pm
Hello does anyone think they have the perfect scorpio.
Just that a lot of people seem to have a lot of problems with there scorpio ... just wondering if anybody has a scorp that has no probs ......... ;) except for that nice white scorp that actually did seem perfect ........ Don't know if he sold it or how much....  ;D

I'm pretty happy right now, all problems I've had with it have been fixed and feel nothing *should* come up, except for the (yearly) maintenance. A few small beginning rust spots bugs me though, and some minor cosmetic details... but no way mint condition or anything like that. Wouldn't the Scorpio be the perfect car even if it would have some problems?

To be honest when theres nothing to do on my scorp, apart from the major jobs..( what i consider major jobs ) I wish there was somthing to do on it.... ( i mean somthing simple like change the pollen filter or clean the MAF )....

Never had any serious probs and has always run smooth and nicely responsive  8)
Never found any codes on scans.
So far no serious rust.

Payback for all the TLC it gets  :-*

Barry you did while it lasted. S29 COS evolved to have a lot of gongs and whistles that the Scorpio's designers never even thought about.

The other thing was that you systematically worked on fixes for some of the foibles and glitches that emerged and I guess spent a fair bit of brass in the process.

Towards the end, I thought my 2 litre was getting to be about as good as it could be and still miss it..:(. My 2.9 is still growing on me but is definitely a work in progress.

My other car the Mk1 that I bought in August feels better than my Ultima at this point, partly because whilst it has minor faults, I am confident that I will get them sorted.

When the Ultima is spot on I guess I may not feel as confident about it (wondering what next) even so I want to stick at it whilst I can.

Maybe some day everything is fixed

- missing left side heater flap motor
- ignition lock not working
- boot lock - -the key part doesnt work
- sun roof doesn't open
- broken wheel bearing
- rusty rear wheel arches
- water temp needle drops to "zero" sometimes. Shown as 255 value.

everything else works :)

Havent really had much trouble with the cossie until now, but that is a broken radiator so i suppose you could class that as a servicable item. My last ultima on the other hand suffered huge electrical failure. Which was a shame as it was absolutly beautiful. Still have a tear in my eye when i think about that one. My old 95 2.0ltr had done nearly 190,000 miles when i sold it & never once gave me any trouble. I guess all of my cars must of brrn made on a monday  ;D ;D

If only I could get my interior lights working then there would be nothing wrong with the y reg - inc bodywork.

Yep.   Really happy with mine.   It's running as well as it ever has especially now the Autobox has been renewed.   The body is about perfect including underneath, I do regular maintenance and give the underneath a scrape and a light brush over with a heavy black paint.   Course over the years I've spent plenty of money on anything it has needed, but I would need to make a huge financial step-up to get anything comparable, and can't justify that for a second 'hobby-car'.   I've still got 'Aunty' and I can't bear to scrap it!   I'm the same with my Bikes, a couple of old Bikes and one good modern Bike, but I only did 1800 miles on my main Bike last year.

craig was at a B&Q at the time then spend 6 hours cutting and recrimping the loom with twin & earth cable to get him home. barley running but it got him home but the damage was done. he sold it to a chap who then added 500 quid to the price and sat it on his forcort with a sign on it saying 'owned by the chairman of the ford scorpio club' lol

needless to say he never shifted it ( he did nothing with the faults) and scrapped it
