Title: wifes wee motor
Post by mick_66 on Nov 15th, 2009, 9:41pm
Hi All
1st : appologies for not being scorp related.. ;)
I am doing some work on the wifes wee  Punto for a new mot, and after renewing the brakes shoes and putting all back together. I am getting a sqeauking noise from rear wheels..

When I remove the wheels and turn by hand, no noise.
I have checked all shoes, drums etc..
I  think the cause could be the washers that come with the studs/bolts for the alloys wheels.
Can these be worn and cause such noises?
anybody had this with any car?

thnx in advance mick. ;)

hi mick

wheel bolts too long? you'll need to cut the ends a bit or try hazelton. (http://www.thomsonlocal.com/Hazelton-Gordon/0079703302108120000/map/companyinfo.html)
most after market alloys for the puntos use a spacer ring on the hub as well. is this ring missing?

hth

these rings are in place.. bolts are longer by 10mm at least.
and they come with tapererd washers.

I am going to paisley today so I'll pop into hazeltons on the way..

cheers andrew..

Hi

problem was caused by bolts being too long  by about 2mm ;)
I took the drums off and put the wheel back on without drums in place, turned wheels and I could see where it was hitting.studs only just hitting the short spring of the 2 at top of shoes.

3mm-4mm off should do the trick, grinder time. ;)

cheers all

Were they new Mick?

Wonder why you've never had the problem before?

Alloys were new 2  years ago stuart, I bought this off  a m8 for a wee project ( and to keep the wife quiet) ;D
He was nt sure if this happened to him when I d asked.

I spoke to a bloke today at hazelton's wheels in hillington and he says i could fit other spacer's at wait for it £10 each... }{ I dont think so..the grinder it is. ;)
