Title: what the 24v thermostat should be?
Post by scorpio_man on Dec 9th, 2009, 9:22pm
hi there

well, i've had to do my first repair on my mondeo.  :(

over the last few weeks, i've noticed that the engine won't come up to temperature. i'm only doing 2 odd miles to work now, so i wasn't too sure if there was an issue or not.

anyway, i got some time to have a better look and even after 15 miles of driving i could only get an engine temp of 77oC with the a/c off (66oC on).  so i figured i've got a stuck open thermostat.

as it turns out, my mondeo has an electronic thermostat. i wasn't sure what  that was, so did a bit of reading on the mondeo forum. turns out one of the features is the ecu can open it fully when the engine is at full load. this helps control engine temp and maybe the water pressure?

if one of these was fitted to the 24v from the start, it might solve the ballooning issue that they suffer from. only an idea, though. :-/

downside is the price of it. £110 from Ford! :o
managed to get it from Ebay for £65.
