Has it been re- registered.or is it a 2001 model........... thought the last one was made in 1998 ..........

It is a long story but it was originally registered in 1998 and due to a DVLA c ock up ended up with a Y plate instead of an R or S plate!! ;D

Wasn't that Big Neil's car up in Cumbria ? it used to have an external wind deflector on the sunroof. That is a Leicester registration.

It was indeed. It's had more owners than Portsmouth FC as well I think!!

I think the guy on the passionford forum really thinks it was the last one ever made!! ;D A good sales pitch I bet!!

This made me giggle  ;D  between two members on passionford site that amiga/combat wrote on,

MATCOS wrote, "Sticking a badge on the back does not make it a Cosworth
It had some work done to the engine by Cosworth, it is not a Cosworth
Cosworth have worked on quite a few car engines over the years, fairly recenty
they worked on the B5 Audi RS4, is that a Cosworth, no.
The car above is a 2.9 24v Scorpio and was never badged as a Cosworth.
It had a small Cosworth badge on the Engine that is all.

People jump on the Cosworth bandwagon when ever they can, the old 190E Merc's is another prime candidate, they had engine work done and are known as Cosworth Merc's but they aren't Cosworths".

Supramat2000 then replied,
Quote:
"you ought to **** off mate, people jump on the cosworth bandwagon, you ****. the bloke was just showing us what is thought to be the last scorpio. what ****s me off is people like you that are on here and think this site says passioncosworth.com, well it ***kin don't it says passionford.com and for your information the granada and scorpio had work done on the engines and the suspension. but regardless, it still says cosworth on the engine so it is a cosworth. its ford that decided to not use the cosworth name because it was seen to be a luxury car not a high performance car, cosworth formula 1 cars are cosworth but there not running a 2.0 YB with a turbo you bloody pompass ****, the 2.9 24v had the whole engine reworked by cosworth, but the bottom end was seen to be strong enough, so they just slightly modified it and made cosworth quad cam heads for it. and besides, it still says FORD on the back the same as yours "
edited for language
;D

This site is far more reserved than some others :D

I suspect MATCOS has an Escort or a Sierra and believes no other form of Cosworth exists then?  ;D

The Granada was officially marketed as a Cosworth and as I believe the omission of the Cosworth badge on the Scorpio was only in an effort to reduce car crime the Scorpio is also a Cosworth :)

surely any car engine thats been worked on by cosworth is known as;; whatever cosworth. ie  sierra cos, scorpio cos. wording bit strong i know but totally agree with potty mouths reply!! }{

I had a similar argument with a guy a few weeks back. He had a sierra cosworth & took great delight in telling me it wasnt a real cossie. " All they have done is fit some heads to an ancient block " he said. " so what is your YB then " ??? Was my reply. Just a head on an ancient block with a blower bolted on, because without it you cant make 200 hp  >:(. Nothing winds me up more than so called 'experts' giving there opinion when it's not asked for. Do you think it's sour grapes that there sierras have the same level of performance as our beloved scorpios, but have to pay 5 times more  ::) Guys like him should just suck it up...Rant over  ;) ;D ;D

I love winding the folks of Passionford up - bunch of conceited t**ts.

Took the "last one" hook line and sinker :-)

Build date is July 1998 - pretty late but probably not the last one.  Was an S-reg originally but registered as a Y reg when the private plate was removed.  DVLA's mistake is my gain :-)

Yup - took it off as I didn't like it.

Quote:

Log book says no. of former keepers 2 since Aug 2001.

So I think you can add +1 before it was re-registered.

Who cares what other people think of their cars?   I've got a few cars and Bikes, none of which are particularly stunning, but I like them all and that's what really matters.   My Fav' is my old Mk4 Zodiac Executive, but I still get funny looks when I say that!   People are Sooooo funny.  :P

Aww I love the MK 4 Zodiacs..... My dad nearly bought one once, a lovely K reg Roman Bronze example.... but when he got there to buy it, it had been sold. :(

Anyway, a few weeks later, the salesman phoned dad and said that the car was back at the garage and would he still be interested..... the only problem was that the car had been respayed..... in pink!!!

Needless to say he never bothered and bought his first MK1 Granada instead!

Personally I like my Corsairs.... I have just bought a one owner from new with 1980 miles on the clock!! It still has the "Running In" sticker in the back window!

Tonyboy, the one on Ebay is an R reg facelift, so it's a 1998......1999 is most likely a typo error  ;)

As yes, they were de-badged and yes, that is a Cosworth badge on the back.

yes that was my car, baz says more owners than portsmouth! one irish chap before me bought it new ,then me and i,ve lost touch after that.the leices. reg is because i bought it there with an irish plate on and it was re-reg in leices. area.
my wife is responsible for the "Y"plate
(first reg nov. 1998)
it does not need a cosworth badge on the bootlid,it says so on both front lower wings!

Title: Re: Last built scorpio

Interestingly Neil - did you notice the recpt in the folder for "1x Cosworth tailgate badge - trim option - fitted - £24" dated 1998.

Seems like it had the bootlid badge when it was delivered from the show room - so Ive only returned it to showroom condition :-)  The orig probably had been nicked - I doubt there is a Sapph/Escort cossie out there with the original bootlid badge.

Regards owners:-

The irish chap from new
then big_neil
then Savvy
then me.

That's only four owners (even though it says two prev on the V5 :-)

Pete.
Your old car is prefacelift built in June 97,and registered in January 99.Must have been another one of those that stood in a field for so long. There was a compound just down the A1 from here full of them, hence many were registered in Peterborough LVLO and were various, what were Cambridgeshire numbers ,FL,EG,CE,AV,EW etc.

Mine was built July 1998 according to the Vin plate (code WK).  What is interesting is that production was supposed to have ended in June 1998!

Amusingly enough, I had an S reg Cossie Ultima that had a build date of April 1997 - so that was another late registered one.

Something not quite right there Amigafan, July 98 was WM.

WK is February 1979!  ;D

Possibly VK October 97?

I'm sure I checked this one out for Big Neil and it wasnt a late build, will have a look tonite again

As far as I can ascertain, the last Scorpio built was registered in Germany, a 2.3 auto Ultima saloon in Moondust silver.

The last built UK one was a Ghia diesel auto saloon in Noveau Red

hi there

re last built scorpio.

iirc, it was available in to mid 1999 as a special order only.

that's not to say it was built then, just it was still available to order from the dealer.

Amigafan, your reg number comes up as a June 98 build (WU) not (WK) can you check your VIN?

I have one which shows as a June build though the VIN says WJ (May) but in the number sequence its later than yours (Maybe got lost in the factory) :)

Now assuming the number sequence relates to production then I know of four other 24v's built after mine and Baz had one built later than all these.

So yours is at least the 7th last 24th built I know of.

One of my facelifted Cossies has a WU Jun 98 build date.
I have read the VIN plate info on the site. I presume the last four digits are chronological sequence of build then?

Hi all, this was my 1st Cosworth, delivered on June 11, 1998, supposedly the last Scorpio then supplied to The Netherlands.

It had full specs and leather including sunroof. It was built in Genk (B), probably because of the Cosworth specs. Never let me down for 3 years (30-01-2001) and 60,000 miles/100,000 km.

As it was a leased companycar it had to go then, sadly, as there was no similar replacement available.

Apparently it is still running around for 11.6 years as shown by current Dutch RDW APK (MOT) data, due April 20, 2010:
Datum eerste toelating        11-06-1998 (11,6 jaar)
Datum aanvang laatste tenaamstelling     30-01-2001  (8,9 jaar)
Status kenteken     Geldig

Never thought of photographing its VIN-plate at the time...
Ray
