Title: Birmingham OBD
Post by Tons_of_fun on Dec 21st, 2009, 8:03am
Hiya. Just wondering if there is anyone around Birmingham who could give my cossie a scan ( obviously not this side of christmas ). It's using a little more fuel than it used to  ::)...Funily enough since i fitted the 17" wheels ( wondering if the increased size is confusing the computer ). Thanks in advance... Craig  :)

What dimensions did you put, and what brand?

Hi Tlundkvi. They are 6.5 x 17" with 215 / 45 / 17 tyres ( Marshall sport ). The Wheels are made by 'Leauge'. If you look at the 18" alloys thread there is a picture of the car on there  8) ( white estate ). Cheers ... Craig  :)

It shouldn't be the tire dimenson that is causing trouble, it's as close as it gets to the stock 225/50R16.

hi there

you can do a few checks yourself without a obd scanner.

using the dash reset, check that it's coming up to temp (usually 79-159).  http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/instreset.htm

then you can check the lambda sensors using a multi-meter, set to 5 volts. on the 24v engine, there's not a lot of space down near the sensors, so be careful!

check all the brakes for binding.

check the tyre pressures.

lastly, remember you use more fuel in the winter.

Thanks for the advice chaps. A thought did occur to me today  :o ( yeah i know... Unusual for me )  ;). It does sit for about 5 mins in the morning with the engine running while i wait for the screens to defrost  :-X As we all know while your not moving your getting 0 to the gallon. Will monitor the situation & let you know. It's only down by a couple of mpg so i think i may have answered my own question. Thanks guys... Craig :)
