Took the car (24V) to Kwik-Fit this morning for an A/C regas @ £25.00
While I was there I decided to let them change the brake fluid @ £29.99
So far so good.

One hour later a phone call to say rear pads were well worn and should be
replaced. OK says I, you may as well do it while the wheels are off.
OK says Mr Kwik-Fit, car should be ready to collect in a couple of hours.

Three hours later phone rings:
"Sorry sir, they sent the wrong caliper"
"Caliper, what caliper?" says I
"Oh, did no-one tell you we snapped a bleed screw on your front O/S caliper
so we ordered a new one and the one they sent is for a 2 wheel drive car but
yours is a 4 wheel drive????? so we will have to send it back"
I tried to explain that the Scorpio was not built with 4 wheel drive but somehow
got the feeling that my words fell on deaf ears.

So just in case they cant find one does anyone know the best place to locate a
front O/S caliper for a December 96 build 24v? Part number may be useful.

Can't they remove the broken bleed screw??

I have a caliper if you get stuck Tony, will pm you my number

Get the old caliper back off them if they change it.

I was informed by a KwikFit manager that the KwikFit guys work on commision, the more they can charge you for, the more they make!

Sometime when I'm lying underneath a Scorpio swearing at it I wonder just why I do it then I read stories like this ;D

Thanks Stuart, much appreciated.

All this happened late in the day when it was too late for me to scrounge some
transport to go and see for myself.

I will speak to them in the morning and see what they come up with.

I wonder if they would be prepared to fit a used part!!

Probably not, there will be various safety issues and polices etc, nothing to do with them making extra cash on a new one ;)

I wouldn't let them work on my 4x4 Granada ;D

I went to college studying Communication and we worked with kwik fit PR agency and they admitted kwikfit make lots of mistakes, i dare not type too much inside info.seriously, on a foot note my mate was a fitter for another tyre fast fiit and he used to tell female customers that had punctures that the sidewall was damaged and he lied and kept and repaired the tyres for his car or else upped his comission.

As the hamfisted idiot butchered your bleed screw,I would have thought either they should replace the caliper gratis or fit your used replacement since the caliper on the car is a used one anyway.Failing that I would take the car away and change the thing myself.Those places are absolutely dire and I would never go near one,when my local tyre man gets me some tyres in,the wheels are taken down there,I don't need a trolley jack under the body or a bloody great airgun overtightening my wheel nuts so that we can't change a wheel on the road !!

I agree with gozz on the caliper issue. They messed it up, so they put it right. Usually i avoid places like Kwik Fit like the plauge, but £25 for an A/C regass does sound tempting :-/

Typical, saw this all the time when looking for brake discs on ebay. They just got the caliper for the 260mm discs because the catalogue said all scorpios. 24V has 278mm discs, but some catalogues DO in fact say 4x4 etc.

Happy Ending

Car ready at 10-00 this morning
Went to collect ready to do battle

However

New caliper FOC
"If we damage it we put it right at no cost to yourself sir"
A/C now extremeley cold

Day just got better

Air-con spot on

Had it done there once before and cant complain.

They give you a full report of what they take out
and put back in including oil.

Bargain @ £25.00 (till the end of April then £48.50)
