Title: Smileys?
Post by Nunnspoet on Apr 16th, 2010, 8:22am
Can somebody please tell me why I can't insert Smileys anymore?

I likes Smileys!

Mike. The site crashed recently and since then Steve (The Big Boss) can't get them to function by 'selection' as previously.  If you go to Help at the top of this page a new page will open. Select 'Posting' and then 'Emoticons'. That will show you how to 'produce' them. Mike

There's a script error, "object expected" on

ONCLICK="javascript:storeCaret(this);"

presumably function not found.

Yes it seems like it can't access cgi-bin/yabb/ubbc.js

Suggests file is not in that path.

Just thought I'd mention that the little boxes above the smileys are not working either  > > >B I U  < < < Etc, Etc, also the text colour dropdown box isn't allowing you to change the text colour.

I wish I'd seen this earlier. It might have saved me taking 2 years off my keyboard's life trying to get the bloody smilies to work!

No they wouldn't, 'cause, the error starts on just clicking / typing in the edit box, after that nothing else works.

A lot of the other stuff is probably done by the same script file (which is unavailable)

LOL if you mean keep you up late at night trying to sort a problem out yes!

It's really quite straightforward, the page can't access ubbc.js because it isn't in the specified path. Put ubbc.js where it should be, sorted. ;D

In theory...

I still can't do it. I don't even understand the explanation. I AM an OAP you know. And a dinosaur to boot. Reminds me of Yes Minister -
Hacker - "Isn't there an explanatory note?"
Bernard - "That IS the explanatory note Prime Minister"

I have found this today.  ( FireFox Add-On )

Quote:
Smiley Xtra 5 boldly goes where no smiley has gone before, letting you insert hundreds of thousands of smilies into your forum posts

It only works If you are using the FireFox browser, doesn't work with IE or Opera.

The smileys used to work when clicked (even in IE).

Since the "crash" there's a bit of script doesn't work anymore, but which used to, it also effects bold italic etc., someone needs to fix it

It's as simple as that.

My personal impression is that a linked file is missing, put it where it's supposed to be, sorted. ;D

Many thanks Tompion. i had seen that but wondered how I could use it in conjunction with postings. So, I have printed it off but I am sure there is an easier way.
Here goes.  :-/     ???

Only just noticed smileys work again and no more errors preventing other things working when typing a post.

Means can use styles as well

;D
