Title: what could the problem be?
Post by rich1 on May 17th, 2010, 8:57pm
there is a nice scorpio cosworth on ebay (s82 occ) silver saloon (not sure how to post onto here) but it says it has no reverse gear , says the forward gears are sweet , so why would it not reverse ? i know its a shot in the dark without knowing the full details but is this a common fault on scorpios ?
btw the starting bid is £1000 , god knows how much he`d want if it went backwards!!!!

I had a similar problem on my 2.9 when I bought it. Although it would engage reverse, it would take seconds and power transfer was next to zero when the box was cold.

According to the explenation I was given by the garage, the gearbox is most certainly ruined. I know mine was. Very costly repair.

Hint ~ start at 100 see if anything happens. May have had a lot of money spent on it previously but no reverse gear is off-putting to say the least

Not if you have a multitude of spare gearboxs lying about :-) ;-) . I doubt it will sell though. There seems to be quite a few coming onto the market at the moment & they seem to be going for pennies again :-(

I'd buy it to convert to a manual gearbox, if I had the time and space to do it.
