Title: More older cars on the road??
Post by Highlander on Jun 7th, 2010, 1:52pm
Is it just me or is anyone noticing a larger number of older cars on the roads?

Usually I have the oldest car in the car park but there appears to be a lot more mid to late 90's motors driving around now compared to a year ago.

Maybe the recession has meant a lot of the hire purchase/contracts on newer cars being terminated or just not renewed and older cars being bought to replace them as the cheaper option?

That may also explain the slight rise in Scorpio values we've been seeing?
possibly the scrappage scheme has reduced the number of older cars to such a level they are now commanding a higher price?

any thoughts?

Since you mention it, was out a bit today and saw an old 1980's BMW, a white series 5 I think, well clean, and a couple of other things, also a works van I think that looked like an old style but still being used. For trade I mean.

Dunno could well be finances is a likely reason. Or could just be people like the old ones better'n the new ones ;D

new cars lack character imo , but i think people are holding on to cars a bit longer these days . things are tight and the last thing people worry about is changing a car and getting in my cab;-(
god its quiet !!

Quite so, also is it the Mercedes E class looks like a dead ringer for a Scorp as well. Keep noticing that ;D

Well think about it most of the older cars look nicer than todays junk and the crunch really is the ROAD TAX  Pre 200 cars are cheaper to tax especially if they are larger engined!!

In Finland the road tax will go up 50% next tax period for a Scorpio, it's based on weight not emission, unless it's a 2001 or later :(. Based on the real CO2 it would be a nightmare :)

Albert welcome.

Looks like you have an interesting mix of motors then, at this point I reckon I am safe to say that the Scorpio and at least one of the Land Rovers is yours.
