Post by Matt on Oct 22nd, 2010, 10:43pm
Just had a quote from ford parts uk for a new sunroof glass, frame and seal and it was a shocker!!

frame - no longer available

glass - £395!

seal - £95!

think i'll just make do with some second hand ones  :-/

I'm after one also for my car, but it seemed very expensive and so far any 2nd hand one's I've found appear to have rusted like mine. I believe it must have been a design fault. :'(

Check for any MKIII's in the scrappy's, (manual opening one's are easier to get open) I do believe the sunroofs are the same shape/design as the Scorpio, my old MKIII sunroof had no rust whatsoever on it, the one's I've seen on scrappers had no rust either.

The last Granada scorpios rust the same as the scorpio. I found a good second hand  one, but thats now rusting badly after only three years, and I tried putting stuff on to keep it from rusting. Can you take the seal off, that tends to hold the water, I could try to rust proof the glass/metal bit then and then put it back on.

Yeah it's the condensation that gathers under the glass. Always having wet patches on the ground under the drains. Occasionally been that bad it drips on me! "Rust proofing" is your best bet, Hammerite paint is speshly formulated to go onto rusty steel. Once a year I give the main frame top side and pop-up spoiler thingy a thorough coating of Waxoyl. Same time as the cable oiling maintenance. ;D

Still need to figure out how to get a thin paintbrush into the underside corners of the sliding bit though

Glass panel can be removed from the sliding mechanism - 3 screws each side...if you can get them undone, that is  :(
Plenty of WD40 helps  ;)

Have a look at This page (http://search.atomz.com/search/?sp-q=sunroof&sp-a=sp100172f5) and read through the first three items. You may find it helps. ;)
