Title: Januarys Project mk4 Fiesta
Post by Matt on Jan 16th, 2011, 5:56pm
Heya all

After hearing from a mate about a crash damaged fiesta not to far from me last weekend i initially though 'eh ok' and wasn't really to bothered. Then he said it was non recorded, starts, drives and has a genuine 39,000 miles on the clock with all the past mots and other paper work to back it up.

so i went to see it and and this is what i found

http://img2.pict.com/e5/c8/ed/4422933/0/09122010014.jpg
http://img2.pict.com/ec/e8/d6/4422934/0/09122010017.jpg

front end fairly smashed up and the windscreen broken but other wise a nice little car.

had a proper look round it the crumple zones had not been damaged and it had not twisted the chassis. I asked how it became to look like it does and found it was a young lad's car who had not long passed his test and came a cropper on a country bend and ditched it, hes lucky as it was a tree branch that popped the windscreen, but only his pride broken.

went away and did some phoning round and found all the bits i needed to replace the cosmetics and the result of that was I bought the poor old fez for £100 lol

on the tow truck
http://img2.pict.com/f6/e8/69/4422926/0/640/imag0118.jpg

got it back to home (well my finance's mom's house (thanks Janet!)) and had a proper look at all the damage (it was going dark when i saw it first time)

here is some pics of the damaged parts

http://img2.pict.com/c8/32/ba/4422911/0/640/fiestarepair003.jpg

Got it back nice and early this Saturday and me being me though no time like the present and set to work, i should say that by this time i has found a chap breaking an exact same car in the same colour so ive pinched most of his bits

even found a brand new genuine ford windscreen on ebay for £90 !!!

new front end bits

Continued

Stripped the front end off within a hour of getting it back and pushed the worst of the dented cross member out with a hydraulic ram

http://img2.pict.com/d9/c9/5c/4422923/0/640/fiestarepair016.jpg
http://img2.pict.com/bc/34/f0/4422924/0/640/fiestarepair017.jpg

Being fairly happy where the cross member was i decided to trial fit the new bumper

http://img2.pict.com/42/7d/98/4422920/0/640/fiestarepair013.jpg
http://img2.pict.com/15/2f/1c/4422921/0/640/fiestarepair014.jpg

that aligned up pretty well so did a full trial fit of all me new bits

http://img2.pict.com/3f/c3/d8/4422916/0/640/fiestarepair008.jpg

And after a bit more fettling with the n/s headlight

http://img2.pict.com/8a/a2/34/4422928/0/640/imag0120.jpg

i have to say i was chuffed by how well the first fitting went, still have a bit more shaping and pulling to do but its very close now. At that point i decided to cut the damaged wings off and have a look for any inner wing damage, there's a tiny bit on the near side but it does with out saying considering the damage to the wing

the bumper is in the correct place

http://img2.pict.com/9e/4b/c2/4422919/0/640/fiestarepair012.jpg

Wings Removed

http://img2.pict.com/46/5f/48/4422929/0/640/imag0121.jpg

this is the stage where ive had to leave it for this weekend, i cannot do the final reshaping of the front end untill i get the new wings which will be this weekend along with some of the fez's 4 spoke alloys. but should be pretty much done next weekend :D

Good effort Matt, interesting photos. I'm envious of someone with the time to do such a project - I have a few like this waiting to be done in my workshop. Well, outside the workshop in the rain, slowly disintegrating. Keep us posted and good luck with the rest of it.

you shold have taken the wings off the doner .ther spot welded but with a bit of care you can mig them back on and not have to spray them

I have a Daihatsu Sportrak that my son bent in the field, so that's waiting for a wing and bumper, then my Scorp has a crumpled bottom edge where I carelessly jacked it up incorrectly, and I also have a Lancia Beta Coupe that really needs the windscreen scuttle doing. Money would fix all these jobs, but I don't have much of that, and thus it follows I don't have much time either as time is money!
Have a look at this  http://www.pbcm.co.uk/
Wish I did this for a living!!
The Daihatsu btw is a little jewel of a car, was saddened to hear they are no longer going to import their cars into the UK after next year. Just like Lancia....must be a coincidence. Oh well.

Hey all

Had another good weekend on the Fez, looking a lot better now, but i have a problem, got the engine running again and at about 2500rpm it makes a horrible knocking noise, im hoping it just a fecked belt tensioner :-[

That aside here's some updated pic's

old screen out

New screen in

http://img2.pict.com/3f/72/31/4427213/0/640/fiestarepair01128229.jpg

Had to buy New pattern wings, but they match up really well, also got some fez alloys to

http://img2.pict.com/52/2e/a5/4427212/0/640/fiestarepair01028229.jpg

and all fixed up, just need to spray the wings and give it a good clean but a job well done me thinks, note the misses with the daft hat too! lol

Matt,

Album opens but all images missing, just a shadowed icon on each.

Maybe its just a glitch at my end but others posts working fine and I have just noticed that your sidebar icon has gone the same way.

the TD still needs a diaphragm and an oil change otherwise its a nice motor (if you dont look at the dents lol) still haven't decided what do do with it just yet, im trying to raise some funds for the 4.0 24v so may just stick it on ebay once its got the new diaphragm, but would hate to see it bough to be broken

Project not so back on track lol

donor engine isnt as good as i though, seems that its worn out the cylinder liners!

no matter though, ive found the problem with the fiestas engine and, robbing bits off the donor that i need and luckily arent worn/damaged i should have the little run about running again
