I've just read that maindealers like Ford, Toyota, etc., - under a change in European law - will no longer be obliged to give/sell fault code data to independant small garages!
Heard anything about this?

Yes, this came out a while ago - the independent trade, RAC/AA, Consumers Association and, I suspect, most of us were horrified. I think an MP was going to take it up. Not sure of outcome though.

Main dealers are the last ones I'd go to, and not because of the cost! This is another example of a new idea that's supposed to be good for the consumer - bl**dy idiots >:(.

HEAR HEAR ::) the proper garages manage to get it all in auto data manuals,they are not particularly cheap,but obviate the need to venture near main dealers.
