Title: Re: Stolen MK1 Escort Post by Mike H on Oct 6th, 2011, 3:53pm Cripes, either someone is desperate for a Mk 1 body shell (stolen to order) or a scrappie's got it now :( |

Title: Re: Stolen MK1 Escort Post by Highlander on Oct 6th, 2011, 4:02pm I very much doubt it was stolen for scrap ;) |

Title: Re: Stolen MK1 Escort Post by martin_rowe on Oct 6th, 2011, 4:30pm Only kidding, I would have been gutted ifit was mine, MK1's fetch a fortune now, good streight body shell will fetch 1000s, they are very sought after, and wouldnt take more than a few mins to change vin number. Stolen to order and allready cloned I should think. |

Title: Re: Stolen MK1 Escort Post by gozz on Oct 7th, 2011, 8:47am Does anyone remember the true Mk1 Escort of the fifties,it was a basic 100E estate,the more upmarket one with a plank of wood fixed to the side was called the Squire. Never could understand why Ford's second Escort became known as the Mk1 ::) GOZZ. |

I remember that one but seem to think it was "Esquire" with an "E" Tony |

Title: Re: Stolen MK1 Escort Post by gozz on Oct 7th, 2011, 5:10pm No Tony,it was for the country squire (or his woman or dog),hence the wood,I reckon you're confusing it with the gentleman's magazine of the time,the one full of pretty ladies 8). GOZZ. |

Title: Re: Stolen MK1 Escort Post by Andycan on Oct 8th, 2011, 9:30pm Gozz if I remember correctly the original escort was copied as I had a thames estate which was exactly the same as the excort and I am sure there was another car maker that made a copy. I wonder if it was for this reason that the original escort was not classed as the mk 1? Was the old prefect the same as well? |
||
Title: Re: Stolen MK1 Escort Post by gozz on Oct 8th, 2011, 9:59pm Andy. The name Thames was only used on Ford commercials,eg the 300E van on which the Squire and Escort were based.The last Prefect was a 100E shell with the then new OHV engine as fitted to the new Anglia with slanty back window,and was designated 107E.Maybe your estate was a van conversion. GOZZ. |
