Title: Limo's Post by PJDavis on Nov 15th, 2011, 10:41am A neighbour has a late Scorpio 'Stretch'. It's a fairly nice car, less than 50k since new, obviously black with all extras including full air-con, 12 spoke alloys, and all leather full-sized seats. 2.3litre auto'looks to be 'Ultima' spec'. It's got a years ticket, and I can't see any rust although I've not looked underneath. I would quite like to have it just for a laugh really and maybe convert it to being a bit more comfortable in the back, with maybe seats facing each-other. So, what's the pit-falls of having a 'stretch'? Would it be a lot more to run? Do they have any inherent particular problems? What about the rear suspension, is it in some way special to take the extra load? I wouldn't use it commercially, just for my own pleasure, and not bothered about it being more difficult to park in towns because I live in the country. All answers appreciated. |

Title: Re: Limo's Post by Dave2302 on Nov 15th, 2011, 11:00am Mechanically it wil be identical except for lengthened prop and exhaust. Sometimes they will suffer a bit of vibration at motorway speeds due to the longer prop. Up side is they are so long they are really easy to hang the @rse out and drift ;D ;D ;D Cheers Dave |

Title: Re: Limo's Post by gozz on Nov 15th, 2011, 8:55pm PJD. The Dorchester and high spec Grosvenor limousines by Coleman Milne are the most numerous stretches, they have Cosworth brakes, self levelling rear suspension with a compressor and air bags, and uprated springs all round, which are much thicker and have more coils, they are the province of Coleman Milne who have them made,as is all the glass which is taller than the saloon. Most of them are six door, and the Grosvenor usually has an aircon unit behind the rear seat, they all have an electric division behind the driver.A few were made with conference seating ie face to face, but are not popular for general use, there were a few saloon height cars made, but again not popular due to headroom on hire work, they looked out of proportion too. There are odd specimens that crop up from other stretchers occasionally, but they are rare and sometimes crude. GOZZ. |

Title: Re: Limo's Post by Baz on Nov 20th, 2011, 12:05pm I once nearly bought a "slightly" stretched limo (It was only an extra 4" in the rear) and that was made for the Archbishop of Canterbury him, self!! Apparently it was one of only 3 or 4 made to that design and didn't look too much like a funeral car... plus it was white!! A chap in Nottingham was selling it and I believe the chap who did eventually buy it ended up on here for a short time. I did post some photos but they are long gone now! Baz |

Title: Re: Limo's Post by gozz on Nov 20th, 2011, 8:15pm That would have been a 'Minster' Baz,I had the Mk6 (Granada 2) version of it,very posh car but no division in mine, though some did.I used it for corporate transport to airports etc, that is until a very bloody arrogant fat cat of a company director seemed to look upon me as his batman and barked orders for about 100 miles, that ruffled me enough to pack it in ::) GOZZ. |
