Title: Figure this out MPG 24V
Post by Daniel on Jun 4th, 2012, 6:58pm
Hi everyone
Just took our 24v to matlock bath today to give it a good run  ;D Matlock Bath is 60 miles from my house(Birmingham) using the M42 so 120 miles round trip. Before we left we put £30 in it to see where that would get us. The computer then read 105 miles range meaning we would have to fill up again some time as 120 miles needed. We drove to matlock around matlock and back home and it now reads 44 miles  :o :D Im not moaning im delighted really but thought id let everyone know. Taking car for oil change and maybe service soon would new air filter help with mpg?

Not sure how trip computer works it out, if by distance and fuel consumed, and averaged out, then the "105" might have meant for urban like usage, high consumption (an assumption?); but then it turns out it's a actually a motorway cruise getting best m.p.g. so had to re-adjust its numbers.

105 – 44 isn't 120!

So I did a quick calc and going by what others have written here about 24V m.p.g., and based on fuel being £1.35 a litre (a guess), I reckoned it used at least £25 worth of the £30 you put in. Which was maybe 4.88 gallons or thereabouts.

So I'm guessing around the 28 m.p.g. mark, if it's all working well.

Don't have a trip computer meself so this is all just surmising. ;D

Dan, the onboard computer works out an average. Driving style will effect this figure. A quick scrap paper scribble £30 @ £1.40 litre = 21.4 litres. 1 litre equates to 0.219 UK gallons. Hence, £30 = 4.7 UK gallons. 120 mile round trip giving a ballpark figure of 25.5 MPG. Not good figures for modern cars. Ok for our Cossies though  ;D

Well if we're going to go down the "I've got a bigger one than you route", I drive Father-in-laws 2001 Bentley Eight very rarely.   It's a non-turbo V8 6750cc, and when driven very easily will only do 14mpg.   It's an LWB model in very lovely condition that hasn't broken 100k miles yet, fantastic to drive, but not often!
