I very much doubt it would have been a police car Daniel.
When they sell a car they usually remove any ancillaries that had been fitted...... even the blues n two's   ;D

If it is that car, the phone is a motorola or NEC car phone.

I had one in my MK3 Scorpio 4x4 back in 1990!!

It's your age Dan,all car phones were like that before the age of the miniature mobile, the bit you can see is the head unit, the actual guts of the system were quite substantial and were fitted remotely, sometimes even in the boot in the case of a limousine with a rear compartment phone. The first common personal mobile phone was a car phone mounted on the top of a large box containing the receiver and a big battery, you needed a shoulder bag which they supplied, to carry it around with you,it was a fairly common sight back then.

Yeah I've got the same, would be a car 'phone then, mine was a fleet vehicle for Balfour Beatty.

Oh right, well, back view of car, just about see a little aerial sticking up from top edge of back window. Got a black plastic section about a 3rd of the way up, i.e. not just a metal rod. It's identical to mine.
