Title: Looking back in again....
Post by pete from Hull on Jan 28th, 2013, 1:36pm
;D ;D ;D Hi all, remember me? I haven't been here for quite a long time but it is great to see you're all still Scorping as strong as ever, I still have my 7 series Beemer although it is giving a few problems for me at the moment... I do miss the Scorpio... :( .
I'd like to spend some time trawling around these boards again to see what you're all up to so I'll be looking in when I can.

Pete....

Hi Pete, good to hear from you again  :)

Hi chaps nice to be able to pop back too, Goz, it's good to know old Betsy is still alive and kicking, a good car to be sure after the cash I chucked at it.

Just had my Beemer in for MOT, £1008 for rear suspension parts, and Brake pipe along with loads of diagnostics for bad idling,,,, found out that Eccentric shafts need replacing and they aren't ordinary set up, they are electronically driven and controlled so it is a case of forking out loasa money for all the parts involved, I have been quoted 2K... OUCH! now I am saving hard to get the work done...

I love the car to bits but since losing 7K p.a I am regretting buying it... Oh well, worst things happen at sea... (so I am Told).

Pete (the poor)  ;D

I'm aware from talking to colleagues how expensive Beemers can be to own...seemingly endless tales of woe  >:(
One guy regularly used to buy a new beemer every 3 years for around £30k-£35k, trade in value after 3 years around £15k-£18k...and then he had the cheek to tell me my 15mpg Jeep Grand Cherokee 'must cost a fortune to run'  :o
Purchase price of the Jeep a little over £1k, annual mileage about 3k... ;D

LOL Bee-Em still think all their owners must be filthy rich? ;D

I am reminded that on the old carb models from the 1980's, the carb body goes porous at about 65k miles. Guess how I know. ;D

A Weber kit was half the cost of a new kosher one. For the 2nd one I got manual choke with it as well, still vastly superior to the auto choke.

A mate of mine has a BMW estate. Recently the heater fan stopped working. Needless to say we thought we'd have a go at access. After all Tompion has 'dealt with' our type!!. To cut a long story short just to access the thing you need to dismantle most of the interior trim, dash, transmission tunnel etc and BMW allow 4 hours for their staff to do it!. In fact my mate, who has friends at the garage, knows that it took them a lot longer. Luckily...if you can call it that..it's a fixed price job but it still cost him £500 !!. He asked for the old one and guess what...we gave it a spray of WD 40......put 12v to it...... and it ran perfectly!!.  :o ::)
