Title: front bottom ball joints
Post by sg_frost on Mar 15th, 2004, 9:30pm
Can the front bottom ball joints be changed seperately from the whole arm.  The arms are £114 each.  Working in a BMW garage, and they simply press in and out with a bench press (or big hammer!!)

Hi, I am sure you will have done this job by now, but to answer your question unfortunately you have to buy the complete arm from Ford rather than just the ball joint itself. I did my nearside a couple of months ago and while it was apart changed the rubber rear mounting for the sake of another £15. The torx pinch bolt on the ball joint was difficult to shift but I took my time and used both heat and penetrating oil and eventually it freed. I did not fancy that snapping. Its worth replacing any bolts with new as they are cheap. I think I will be doing the offside soon.

Hi,

Just in case you are still in trouble, I had an MOT failure on both sides. FORDCO set me up wit a pair of S/H ones for £50 plus £10 p&p in 24 hours. Local garage - not FORD, charged me £50 to fit them. No parts and I'm up and running for a Ton. Worth a try?

Good luck,

Ron.
